Mg, Ca, and Sr atoms were codeposited with argon krypton at 10 K for optical absorption investigation of the van der Waals diatomic molecules. Very strong weak structured absorptions observed Mg2 367 444 nm, respectively. An unstructured 507 nm a 648 found Ca2, 710 was Sr2. Intermediate intermediate spacings CaMg, SrMg, SrCa in mixed-metal experiments. The are assigned to 1Σ+u(1S+1P) ←1Σ+g(1S+1S) transitions.

Photoenols, formed through photoinduced intramolecular H atom abstraction in o-alkyl-substituted arylketones, typically have limited utility as reactive intermediates owing to fast reversion the starting material. Herein, we introduced an azido group on o-alkyl substituent render photoreaction irreversible. Irradiation of 2-azidomethylbenzophenone (1) methanol yielded 2-(hydroxy(phenyl)methyl)benzonitrile (2). Laser flash photolysis 1 revealed formation biradical 3Br1 followed by intersystem...

Argon matrix samples of Kr/F2, Xe/F2, Xe/Cl2, and Xe/Br2 have been photolyzed at 20 K. Emission spectra using uv excitation absorption following photolysis are assigned to the KrF, XeF, XeCl, XeBr molecules. Vibrational spacings on two KrF XeF bands near RbF CsF values, which supports ionic model for excited states. The vibronic absorptions, very sharp XeCl bands, indicate ground state potential function minima values. This suggests that chemical bonding effects significant in XeCl.

Organosulfates formed from heterogeneous reactions of organic-derived oxidation products with sulfate ions can account for >15% secondary organic aerosol (SOA) mass, primarily in submicron particles long atmospheric lifetimes. However, fundamental understanding organosulfate molecular structures is limited, particularly at atmospherically relevant acidities (pH = 0-6). Herein, 2-methyltetrol sulfates (2-MTSs), an important group isoprene-derived organosulfates, protonation state and...

Argon matrix samples containing O2 and Cl2 have been bombarded with 2.0 keV protons deuterons during condensation at 15°K. In the oxygen experiments, bands due to O3 HO2 appeared. Of most interest is isolated O−3 804.3 cm−1. Deuteron radiolysis produced increased yields of 644 cm−1 band which confirmed as a DAr+n species. Proton deuteron chlorine−containing HCl2x DCl2x in high yields. Owing strong electron scavenging capability chlorine, these species are probably anions.
