Three factors tied with secondary student success in content–area reading are demonstrated: (a) validated teacher–focused and student–focused interventions, (b) integrated comprehensive service delivery systems, (c) well–designed, data–based professional developmental programs. Difficult challenges face students LD their teachers regard to these students’ participation required general education classes. Recently, instructional methods materials have been developed for promoting success....
Improving the educational outcomes for students who are at risk academic failure is an important issue educators and policymakers. Recently, before- after-school tutoring programs have been identified as having potential to turn into success. Two studies were conducted determine efficacy of program. Results showed that at-risk with learning disabilities failing classes could earn average or better grades on quizzes tests if they had support trained adult tutors. Additionally, researchers...
Results from randomized controlled trials of learning strategies instruction with 375 adult basic education (AE) participants are reported. Reading outcomes whole group strategic in one four were compared to reading delivered the context typical units on social studies, history, and science. Both experimental control conditions experienced high attrition low attendance, resulting only 105 100 participants' data outcome analyses for strategies. these completers not significantly different...
Reading achievement scores for adolescents with disabilities are markedly lower than the of without disabilities. For example, 62% students read below basic level on NAEP assessment, compared to 19% their nondisabled peers. This gap has been a continuing challenge more 35 years. In this article, we report promise comprehensive 2-year reading program called Fusion Reading. is designed significantly narrow middle school Using quasi-experimental design matched groups disabilities, statistically...
We designed a multiple baseline study to evaluate an instructional coaching model in which coaches use video recordings of collaborating teachers' classrooms inform their practices. In this model, teachers and evidence co-construct student-based goal identify best practices reach goal. found that the is associated with greater effective pedagogical strategies among increased student engagement classroom.
In this article, we discuss research supporting the Strategic Instruction Model's™ (SIM) effort to address higher order reasoning and thinking skills in two lines of programmatic research. We review extant body evidence SIM library, Content Enhancement Routines a comprehensive reading program, impact that materials have on high school students with learning disabilities (LD). This includes studies utilizing multiple designs including randomized control trials, single case multiplebaseline,...

Many students with learning disabilities (LD) do not master basic reading skills, which affects later fluency and comprehension development. Single-case experimental design (SCED) research yields unique opportunities to better understand aspects of a intervention are effective particular student, including the individual’s rate growth, stability, or maintenance acquired whether modifications need be made under study. In this article, we use case study illustration highlight considerations...
