A new approach is presented for the meta‐analysis of data from pre‐test‐post‐test designs. With this approach, studies using different designs may be compared directly and without control groups need not omitted. The based on a ‘standardized mean‐change’ measure, computed each sample within study, involves analysis standardized mean changes differences in changes. Analyses are illustrated results effectiveness mental practice motor‐skill development.
Multicollinearity is a potential problem in all regression analyses. However, the examination of multicollinearity rarely reported primary studies. In this article we discuss and show several post hoc methods for assessing multicollinearity. One such diagnostic variance inflation factor. We outline factor method, which computes from standardized coefficient semi-partial correlation, both can be calculated commonly results. Three examples computing diagnostics using data published studies are...
One of the most frequently cited reasons for conducting a meta-analysis is increase in statistical power that it affords reviewer. This article demonstrates fixed-effects increases by reducing standard error weighted average effect size (T.) and, so doing, shrinks confidence interval around T.. Small intervals make more likely reviewers to detect nonzero population effects, thereby increasing power. Smaller also represent increased precision estimated size. Computational examples are...
The multidimensional approach to the study of anxiety (Martens, Vealey, & Burton, 1990a) considers subcomponents anxiety, specifically cognitive somatic and self-confidence. Much research based on this theory has utilized Competitive State Anxiety Inventory (CSAI-2) Bump, Smith, 1990b). Findings have been inconsistent, with some suggesting that three separate relationships performance other studies failing find any relationship between performance. This meta-analysis examined effect...
Research on methods of meta-analysis (the synthesis related study results) has dealt with many simple indices, but less attention been paid to the issue summarizing regression slopes. In part this is because complications that arise when real sets models are accumulated. We outline complexities involved in synthesizing slopes, describe existing analysis and present a multivariate generalized least squares approach
Public health and service interventions are typically complex: they multifaceted, with impacts at multiple levels on stakeholders. Systematic reviews evaluating the effects of complex can be challenging to conduct. This paper is part a special series papers considering these challenges particularly in context WHO guideline development. We outline established innovative methods for synthesising quantitative evidence within systematic review intervention, including considerations complexity...
How prevalent is dyslexia? A definitive answer to this question has been elusive because of the continuous distribution reading performance and predictors dyslexia heterogeneous nature samples poor readers. Samples readers are a mixture individuals whose consistent with or expected based on their in other academic areas language, not performances. In present article, we replicate extend new approach for determining prevalence dyslexia. Using model-based meta-analysis simulation, three main...
Forty cases of endocardial thrombosis the heart were selected for pathologic study from a total 9,500 autopsies performed during 1936 to 1951. Widespread focal involvement connective tissue throughout body and particularly in was demonstrated. Although histopathologic features similar those found "diffuse collagen diseases" they did not show characteristic lesions rheumatic fever, periarteritis nodosa, lupus erythematosus or diffuse scleroderma. The clinical presentation rapidly progressive...
A new effect size representing the predictive power of an independent variable from a multiple regression model is presented. The index, denoted as r sp , semipartial correlation predictor with outcome interest. This can be computed when variables are included in and represents partial family. derivations presented this article provide its variance. Standard errors confidence intervals for individual values. Also, meta-analysis correlations proceed similar fashion to typical meta-analyses,...
A model-based meta-analytic review highlighted relationships critical for understanding the young child's postdivorce adjustment when planning parenting arrangements. This confirmed utility of an interactional model that includes preseparation information and about father, mother, parental alliance. Interactions among quality frequency father's involvement in relation to child were not clear studies looking only at direct effects father-access variables identified. Results indicated maternal...
This article outlines analyses for the results of a series studies examining intercorrelations among set p + 1 variables. A test whether common population correlation matrix underlies empirical is given. Methods are presented estimating either pooled or average matrix, depending on appear to arise from single population. random effects model provides basis estimation and testing when matrices may not share matrix. Finally, I show how (or matrix) can be used estimate standardized coefficients...
To determine the subsequent evolution of neurologic, neuropsychologic, and intracranial anatomic findings in long-term survivors small-cell cancer, we repeated an evaluation done 4 years previously patients 6 to 13 after treatment. Fifteen were reevaluated with a history physical examination, mental status neuropsychologic testing, computed cranial tomographic (CCT) scans, magnetic resonance imaging (MRI). All but one was ambulatory none institutionalized. Thirteen 15 had neurologic...
Analyses of results studies documented in 23 reports on coaching for the Scholastic Aptitude Test (SAT) indicated that, average, can help increase SAT scores. However, considerable variability 48 reflected fact that not all is necessarily effective and do provide similar views coaching’s effectiveness. Results published unpublished were analyzed separately. Characteristics related to magnitudes effects included date publication study, whether study was sponsored by Educational Testing...
