isolation imposed by disease containment measures with future mental health problems among children and adolescents. This study has several limitations, including measurement errors in outcomes unmeasured confounders, as well the limited representativeness of sample.Because suicide is third leading cause death for adolescents aged 10 to 14 years, a wide-ranging interdisciplinary response that applies knowledge about effective prevention approaches should be an international priority.
Education inequality between the rural and urban areas of People's Republic China (PRC)—a potential bottleneck for human capital accumulation—has long been interest to researchers policymakers. This paper uses data from Family Panel Survey (CFPS) Rural–Urban Migration in (RUMiC) survey compare education performance children, children rural-to-urban migrants, over period 2009–2010. Results show that migrants’ is significantly lower than their counterparts even after accounting differences...
A positive relationship between farm size and productivity is often considered to be largely due increasing returns scale in production. However, using farm‐level data for the Australian broadacre industry, we found that constant or mildly decreasing more typical scenario. In this study, marginal various inputs are compared across farms with different sizes. We large achieved higher by changing production technology rather than alone. The results highlight disparity ‘returns scale’ size’...
Our Beijing-based laboratory experiment investigated gender differences in competitive choices across different birth-cohorts experiencing – during their crucial developmental-age institutions and social norms. To control for general time trends, we use Taipei counterpart subjects with identical original Confucian traditions. findings confirm that exposure to institutions/norms developmental-ages significantly changes individuals' behaviour. In particular, Beijing females growing up the...
The effects of coronavirus disease-19 (COVID-19) public health policies on non-COVID-19-related mortality are unclear. Here, using death registries based 300 million Chinese people and a difference-in-differences design, we find that China's strict anti-contagion during the COVID-19 pandemic significantly reduced non-COVID-19 outside Wuhan (by 4.6%). benefits persisted became even greater after measures were loosened: was by 12.5% in medium term. Significant changes people's behaviours (for...
This article uses survey and experimental data from prison inmates comparable non-inmates to examine the drivers of rising criminality in China. We find that China's high sex ratios are associated with greater risk-taking, impatience neuroticism amongst males. These underlying behavioural impacts explain some part increase criminality. The primary avenue through which ratio increases crime, however, is direct pressure on men appear financially attractive order a partner marriage market....
This study examined the causal relationship between air pollution and labor productivity, by adopting prison factory data for a perfect measure of productivity. To address endogeneity pollution, an instrumental variable strategy was used. The results showed that 10-unit increase in index led to significant decrease productivity 4%. A nonlinear also suggested, which implied extreme reduced heavily. emphasized negative externality on
Abstract This paper analyzes changes in labor force participation rates over time for gender- and ethnicity-differentiated groups urban China. From 1990 to 2000, fell substantially with women's declining more rapidly than men's minority Han women's. Women's is determined by a complex interaction of often gendered economic, demographic, cultural factors that vary considerably ethnic group. analysis employs probit regression techniques census data explore possible explanations the observed...
This study aims to provide a deeper understanding of the dimensionality and consequences existing Chinese vacationers' perceived destination restorative qualities (PDRQs) by cross-culturally validating PDRQ scale (PDRQS), which has been recently developed assess individuals' PDRQs in American context. Using two samples vacationers (sample 1: n = 230; sample 2: 148) who were taking real vacation when being surveyed, following rigorous process validation, confirmed that five out six original...
This paper develops a theoretical model to examine the relationship between input elasticity of (technical) substitution and both farm total factor productivity size. In presence ongoing technical change its bias, ‘income effect’ arising from farms' cost minimising behaviour enables them increase by saving inputs or, through dual equivalent, enlarging As such, farms with higher elasticities tend grow larger become more productive, which provides new mechanism heterogeneity in growth can be...
China is still in the growth period of population urbanization; meanwhile, it a large agricultural country where high-quality development requires high agro-ecological efficiency level. Based on panel data from 31 provinces and cities 2001 to 2020, paper constructs an eco-efficiency evaluation index system that more line with China’s current production situation. Meanwhile, undesired output super-efficiency SBM model used measure it. Combining PVAR Tobit models, explores effect urbanization...
