Oxidation by persulfates at elevated temperatures (thermally activated persulfates) disintegrates bacterial cells and extracellular polymeric substances (EPS) composing waste-activated sludge (WAS), facilitating the subsequent dewatering. The WAS disintegration process thermally exhibited different behaviors depending on types of employed, that is, peroxymonosulfate (PMS) versus peroxydisulfate (PDS). decomposition PMS in proceeded via a two-phase reaction, an instantaneous direct reaction...
This is the foreword to special issue on localization techniques in quantum field theory. The summary of individual chapters given and their interrelation discussed.
We investigate the self-dual Yang-Mills gauge configurations on $R^3\times S^1$ when symmetry SU(2) is broken to U(1) by Wilson loop. construct explicit field configuration for a single instanton Nahm method and show that an composed of two monopoles opposite magnetic charge. normalize moduli space metric study various limits its metric.
Recently discovered self-dual relativistic solitons in an Abelian Chern-Simons theory are discussed detail. The model simultaneously supports topological and nontopological solitons.Received 17 July 1990DOI:https://doi.org/10.1103/PhysRevD.42.3488©1990 American Physical Society
We study magnetically charged classical solutions of a spontaneously broken gauge theory interacting with gravity. show that nonsingular monopole exist only if the Higgs-field vacuum expectation value $v$ is less than or equal to critical ${v}_{\mathrm{cr}}$ which order Planck mass. In limiting case, becomes black hole, region outside horizon described by Reissner-Nordstr\"om solution. For $v<{v}_{\mathrm{cr}}$ we find additional are singular at $r=0$ but have this singularity hidden within...
Classical nontopological soliton configurations are considered within the theory of a complex scalar field with gauged U(1) symmetry. Their existence and stability against dispersion demonstrated some their properties investigated analytically numerically. The configuration is such that inside local symmetry broken, gauge becomes massive, for range values coupling constants superconductor pushing charge to surface. Furthermore, because repulsive Coulomb force, there maximum size these...
We propose new five-dimensional gauge theory descriptions of six-dimensional $$ \mathcal{N} = (1,0) superconformal field theories arising from type IIA brane configurations includ-ing an ON 0-plane. The may have SO, Sp, and SU groups further broaden the landscape ultraviolet complete 1 supersymmetric theories. When we include O8−-plane in addition to 0-plane, T-duality yields two O7−-planes at intersections 0-plane O50-planes. a novel resolution O7−-plane with four D7-branes such...
We study a family of 2d N=(0,4) gauge theories which describes at low energy the dynamics E-strings, M2-branes suspended between pair M5 and M9 branes. The theory is engineered using duality with type IIA theory, leading to D2-branes an NS5-brane 8 D8-branes on O8-plane. compute elliptic genus this theories, find agreement known results for single two E-strings. partition function can in principle be computed arbitrary number we them explicitly numbers. test our predictions against partially...
The Cu(II)/H2O2 system is recognized for its potential to degrade recalcitrant organic contaminants and inactivate microorganisms in wastewater. We investigated unique dual oxidation strategy involving the selective of copper-complexing ligands enhanced nonchelated compounds. L-Histidine (His) benzoic acid (BA) served as model compounds basic biomolecular contaminants, respectively. In presence both His BA, rapidly degraded complexed with copper ions within 30 s; however, BA gradually a...
Motivated by the recent $D$-brane constructions of world-volume monopoles and instantons, we study supersymmetric SU$(N)$ Yang-Mills theory on ${S}^{1}\ifmmode\times\else\texttimes\fi{}{R}^{3+1}$, spontaneously broken a Wilson loop. In addition to usual $N\ensuremath{-}1$ fundamental monopoles, $N$th Bogomol'nyi-Prasad-Sommerfield monopole appears from Kaluza-Klein sector. When all $N$ are present, net magnetic charge vanishes solution can be reinterpreted as Wilson-loop instanton unit...
The quantum theory of a complex scalar field coupled to gravity is considered. A formalism for the semiclassical approach in Euclidean time developed and used study wormhole physics. conserved global charge plays an essential role. Wormhole physics turns on only after symmetry spontaneously broken. An effective self-interaction Goldstone bosons due wormholes shown be cosine potential, whose vacuum energy will reduced by cosmic expansion. Some implications questions are discussed.
A field theory whose potential contains more than one stable or metastable minimum is considered. It shown that if the vacuum energies are greater zero gravitational effects make it possible for bubbles of a higher-energy ``false vacuum'' to nucleate and expand within homogeneous region lower-energy ``true vacuum.'' consequence this in de Sitter Sitter-like space-time any initial state will eventually evolve unique statistical mixture all vacua. If relatively close, can be described as...
Working in the context of spontaneously broken gauge theories, we show that magnetically charged Reissner-Nordstr\"om solution develops a classical instability if horizon is sufficiently small. This has significant implications for evolution black hole. In particular, it leads to possibility such hole could evaporate completely, leaving its place nonsingular magnetic monopole.
We find a 16-supersymmetric mass-deformed Bagger-Lambert theory with $SO(4)\ifmmode\times\else\texttimes\fi{}SO(4)$ global $R$ symmetry. The charge plays the role of noncentral term in superalgebra. This has one symmetric vacuum and two inequivalent broken sectors vacua. Each sector symmetry $SO(4)$ geometry. $1/2$ BPS domain walls connecting phase any phase, $1/4$ supertubelike objects, which may appear as anyonic $q$-balls or vortices phase. also discuss mass deformations, reduce number...
We propose a new 5d description of the circle-compactified 6d $(D_{N+4}, D_{N+4})$ minimal conformal matter theory which can be approached by $\mathcal{N}=(1,0)$ $Sp(N)$ gauge with $N_f=2N+8$ flavors and one tensor multiplet. Compactifying brane set-up for theory, we arrive at 5-brane Tao diagram $\mathcal{N}=1$ $SU(N+2)$ vanishing Chern-Simons level $2N+8$ flavors. conjecture that is recovered as UV fixed point this theory. show global symmetry $SO(4N+16)$ identical to analyzing 7-brane...
