The first Portuguese magnetic confinement experiment, the tokamak ISTTOK, has been in operation since 1993. This device is described and main technological features, as well novel techniques of its diagnostics control data acquisition system, are reported. A synopsis experimental activity also presented.
In this paper we describe the heavy ion beam diagnostic for tokamak ISTTOK, which has been designed to determine temporal evolution of plasma density, poloidal magnetic field and potential profiles. This makes use a new type high density caesium source, multiple cell detector fast data acquisition system. We numerical code trajectory attenuation simulations, method experimental determination profile, gun detection, control systems. Calibration tests first results are presented.< <ETX...
This paper describes the temporal evolution of major internal plasma parameters during a complete sawtooth cycle tokamak ISTTOK discharges, with emphasis on time-resolved determination density profile by heavy-ion beam probing.
A new type of high-density caesium plasma ion source is described, which capable producing Cs+ beam currents up to 300 mu A. The emitting surface in the conforms automatically accelerator geometry give perveance match, providing that density correctly adjusted with respect required energy. Ready operation at different energies constant facilitated this way. Consequently, divergence practically independent maintained level by controlling temperature chamber walls on atomic deposited. and...
The mechanism for vibronic excitation and ion pair production in alkali metal-alkyl halide collisions is investigated. A classical trajectory surface hopping model developed to account the fourteen exit channels which data available. It shown that ground ionic intermediate accounts observed state CH3I as well of excited atoms. further other, more highly excited, processes can be understood on basis an electron harpoon form one a sequence strongly doorway states. Each connecting manifold...
A heavy ion beam diagnostic for the tokamak ISTTOK has been developed with aim of measuring temporal evolution electron density, plasma potential, temperature and poloidal magnetic field radial profiles. The control data acquisition system this is described. This was designed in a modular versatile approach based on locally VME timing, waveform generator digitizer modules. Its integration into as well first experimental results are also reported.
