In this data paper, we describe environmental DNA (eDNA) cytochrome c oxidase (COI) amplicon sequence from New York City’s Bronx River Estuary. As urban systems continue to expand, describing and monitoring their biodiversity is increasingly important for sustainability. Once polluted overexploited, Estuary undergoing revitalization restoration. To investigate characterize the area’s diversity, collected sequenced river sediment surface water samples Hunts Point Riverside Soundview Parks (n...

Abstract For most of the scientific disciplines associated with coastal and estuarine research, workforce representation does not match demographics communities we serve, especially for Black, Hispanic or Latino, Indigenous peoples. This essay provides an overview this inequity identifies how a society can catalyze representational, structural, interactional diversity to achieve greater inclusion. Needed changes go beyond representational require intentional commitment build capacity through...

Biodiversity monitoring is an essential component of restoration efforts. We sequenced 16S rRNA gene amplicons from sediments and waters Hunts Point Riverside Park Soundview Park, located in a historically degraded but recovering urban estuary New York. In total, 16,165 unique amplicon sequence variants were recovered, Proteobacteria was the dominant phylum.

Characterising and monitoring biological diversity to foster sustainable ecosystems is highly recommended as urban centres rapidly expand. However, much of New York City’s biodiversity remains undescribed, including in the historically degraded, but recovering Bronx River Estuary. In a pilot study identify organisms characterise patterns there, 18S rRNA gene amplicons (V1–V3 region), obtained from river sediments surface waters Hunts Point Riverside Soundview Parks, were sequenced. Across 48...

<h3>Background</h3> Solid tumor microenvironments (TMEs), which are frequently characterized by dense fibroblastic infiltrates and matrix protein deposition, restrict infiltration immune effector cells such as T-cells natural killer (NK) cells, limiting the efficacy of approaches CAR-T CAR-NK cell therapies.1 2 Numerous proteases, metalloproteinases, cathepsins dipeptidyl peptidases known to digest extracellular matrix.3 We hypothesized that forced overexpression...

Abstract Pancreatic stellate cells (PSCs) are the main sources of cancer-associated fibroblasts in pancreatic ductal adenocarcinoma (PDAC), which account for at least 50% PDAC’s total tumor volume and its dense desmoplastic stroma. In recent years, immune-stromal cell interactions have been subject research a variety diseases. Interestingly, natural killer (NK) relatively understudied PDAC may be exploited to identify new treatment opportunities. We explored how NK cell-PSC mediated by known...

<h3>Background</h3> Natural killer (NK) cells play a crucial role in both physiologic and pathologic conditions, including cancer. A number of strategies have been employed to utilize the cytolytic properties NK treatment cancer.1,2 One hurdle efficacy NK-cell based therapy is cell infiltration into tumors. 3 The mechanisms employ for physical migration are not well described.4,5 We recently found that fibroblast activation protein (FAP) expressed by human...
