To date the genus Diploplastron comprised only one species of ophryoscolecid ciliate, affine, which is characterized by having two retractable ciliary zones in anterior end body, slender and juxtaposed skeletal plates on right side, a rod shape macronucleus, contractile vacuoles. During study characterization rumen ciliate community composition Brazilian domestic sheep, we observed ciliates with atypical morphology but diagnostic features Diploplastron. This describes dehorityi, new that...

Abstract Parasitic diseases, like avian malaria, play a relevant impact on wild avifauna around the world, putting threat to biodiversity, principally in endemic zones. For this research, we collected 171 blood samples from 21 bird species different locations within Atlantic Rainforest, global endemism center. These were analyzed using morphological, molecular, and phylogenetic approach. Our findings reveal presence of Plasmodium cathemerium, widespread pathogenic parasite hosts....

The present study proposes a modification of the technique described by PURSER & MOIR (1959) for quantitative evaluation rumen ciliate based on an adaptation DEHORITY (I984). modifying process includes: replacement two drops brilliant green dye, at least four hours, three lugol solution, 15 minutes. It was made comparative these stainings. concluded that solution can replace dye showing following advantages: staining time reduction and subsequent speeding sample processing; evidence skeletal...

In recent years haemosporidian infection by protozoa of the genus Plasmodium and Haemoproteus, has been considered one most important factors related to extinction and/or population decline several species birds worldwide. Brazil, despite large avian biodiversity, few studies have designed detect this infection, especially among wild in captivity. Thus, objective study was analyze prevalence spp. Haemoproteus captivity Atlantic Forest southeastern Brazil using microscopy polymerase chain...

The gastrointestinal tracts of most herbivorous mammals are colonized by symbiotic ciliates the subclass Trichostomatia, which form a well-supported monophyletic group, currently composed ∼1,000 species, 129 genera, and 21 families, distributed into three orders, Entodiniomorphida, Macropodiniida, Vestibuliferida. In recent years, trichostomatid have been playing part in many relevant functional studies, such as those focusing host feeding efficiency optimization investigating their role...

Abstract The objective of this study was to record and analyze the prevalence ciliated protozoa associated with prosobranchian snails species Pomacea figulina collected from an urban stream in south‐eastern Brazil. Four collections were carried out between December, 2005, March, 2006, which 23 10 'empty' shells obtained. opercula scraped over Petri dishes ciliates observed using bright field phase contrast microscopy. Seven recorded on P. figulina. Of analyzed, 82.60% (n = 19) infested at...

Site preference and spatial temporal occurrence of the peritrich ciliate Rhabdostyla sp. colonizing oligochaetes species Limnodrilus hoffmeisteri were investigated along a polluted stream in Brazil. Three patterns site ciliates on observed, with location predominantly posterior region L. hoffmeisteri. The epibionts was spatially temporally heterogeneous. results are discussed terms possible causes ciliates' for tubificids, factors related to heterogeneous patterns.

Epibiosis is a facultative association of two organ -isms: the epibiont and basibiont. The term “epibiont” includes organisms that, during sessile phase their life cycle, are attached to surface living substra-tum, while basibiont lodges constitutes support for (Wahl, 1989; Fernandez-Leborans Tato-Porto, 2000). Several ciliate protozoans live as epibionts on ani-mals plants, using them substrate (Fenchel, 1987; Sleigh, 1988; Mayen-Estrada Aladro-Lubel, 2001). Most ciliates genus

The validity of genus Eodinium has been historically disputed due to morphological similarities with Diplodinium (absence skeletal plates as well adoral and dorsal ciliary zones at the same body level). To address this issue, 18S rDNA four posterovesiculatum morphotypes anisacanthum were sequenced phylogenetically analyzed. different inference methods suggest existence a last common ancestor Ostracodinium that is not shared Diplodinium, strongly supporting Eodinium. This study aimed to evaluate the 4-(6'-thiopurine)-7-chloroquinoline, a novel quinoline/6-thiopurine conjugate, for treatment of Gallus gallus experimentally infected with Plasmodium juxtanucleare, an avian malaria agent. The group treated 4-(6'-thiopurine)-7-chloroquinoline showed significative parasite clearance and maintained low level parasitaemia, when compared untreated control chloroquine group.

Bianca Sartini, Roberto Marchesini, Sthefane D ´ávila, Marta D'Agosto, and Júnio Pedroso Dias (2018) Freshwater gastropods represent good models for the investigation of epibiotic relationships because their shells act as hard substrates, offering a range microhabitats that peritrich ciliates can occupy. In present study we analyzed community composition structure epibionts on basibiont freshwater gastropod Physa acuta. We also investigated spatial distribution these basibionts, assuming...
