In study, we introduce our recently developed ultrasound-guided system, which been improved system compactness,...
In this manuscript, we review the current progress of utilizing ultrasound-guided diffuse optical tomography (US-guided DOT) for predicting and monitoring neoadjuvant chemotherapy (NAC) outcomes breast cancer patients. We also report recent advance on systems toward portable robust clinical use at multiple sites. The first patient who has been closely monitored before NAC, day 2, 8, end three cycles surgery is given as an example to demonstrate potential US-guided DOT technique.
A spatial frequency domain imaging (SFDI) system was developed for characterizing ex vivo human ovarian tissue using wide-field absorption and scattering properties their heterogeneities. Based on the observed differences between images of different groups, six parameters were quantitatively extracted. These are mean scattering, heterogeneities both maps measured by a standard deviation, fitting error Gaussian model fitted to normalized Radon transform maps. logistic regression used...
We report in this pilot study the diagnostic results of vivo imaging patients with ovarian lesions, using a co-registered photoacoustic and ultrasound (PAT/US) system. A total 39 ovaries from 24 were imaged vivo. PAT functional features, i.e., blood oxygen saturation (sO2) relative hemoglobin (rHbT), image spectral features within region interest (ROI) each tissue extracted. To select significant t-test on feature was performed, independent predictors determined by evaluating correlation...
Colorectal cancer is the second most common malignancy diagnosed globally. Critical gaps exist in diagnostic and surveillance imaging modalities for colorectal neoplasia. Although prior studies have demonstrated capability of photoacoustic techniques to differentiate normal from neoplastic tissue gastrointestinal tract, evaluation deep with a fast speed large field view remains limited. To investigate ability technology image deeper tissue, we conducted pilot study using real-time...
Due to the correlated nature of diffused light, problem reconstructing optical properties using diffuse tomography (DOT) is ill-posed.US-, MRI-or x-ray-guided DOT approaches can reduce total number parameters be estimated and improve reconstruction accuracy. However, when target volume large, estimate exceed measurements, resulting in an underdetermined imaging model. In such cases, accurate image difficult regularization methods should employed obtain a useful solution. In this manuscript,...
An optimized hand-held photoacoustic and ultrasound probe suitable for endo-cavity tumor subsurface imaging was designed evaluated. Compared to previous designs, the prototype probe, consisting of four 1 mm multi-mode optical fibers attached with 1.5 diameter ball-shaped fiber tips sandwiched between a transvaginal transducer custom-made sheath, demonstrated higher light output better beam homogeneity on tissue subsurface. The power fluence profile were simulated different design parameters....
Diffuse optical tomography (DOT) has demonstrated huge potential in breast cancer diagnosis and treatment monitoring. DOT image reconstruction guided by ultrasound (US) improves the diffused light localization lesion accuracy. However, depends on tumor geometry provided coregistered US. Experienced operators can manually measure these parameters; however, training measurement time are needed. The wide clinical use of this technique its robustness faster imaging capability. This article...
The paper presents an efficient image compression algorithm for wireless capsule endoscopy application. This works in YUV colour plane and exploits some special features of human endoscopic images. Based on the nature images, a set transform-quantization pair is proposed that results high while keeping reconstruction quality over 45dB. Compared to other transform-based algorithms targeted endoscopy, scheme performs strongly with ratio 90% PSNR SSIM (over 48dB 0.999).
We have developed the ultrasound (US)-guided diffuse optical tomography technique to assist US diagnosis of breast cancer and predict neoadjuvant chemotherapy response patients with cancer. The was implemented using a hand-held hybrid probe consisting coregistered transducer source detector fibers which couple light illumination from laser diodes photon detection photomultiplier tube detectors. With guidance, diffused measurements were made at lesion site normal contralateral reference used...
Video capsule endoscopy is a non-invasive technique to receive images of intestine for medical diagnostics. The main design challenges are accruing and transmitting acceptable quality by utilizing as less hardware battery power possible. In order save wireless transmission bandwidth, an efficient image compression algorithm needs be implemented inside the electronic capsule. this paper, integer discrete-cosine-transform (DCT) based presented that works on low-complexity color-space specially...
An efficient YCgCo color space based image compression algorithm for the capsule endoscopy application is presented in this paper. The developed taking advantage of special characteristics endoscopic images and energy compaction capabilities plane. scheme provides high reconstruction quality (PSNR over 52dB) competitive ratio (over 80%). uses integer-based forward transform followed by a simple implementation-friendly quantization stage that requires less hardware cost, thus suitable power...
More than 80% of the ovarian cancers are diagnosed at late stages and survival rate is less 50%. Currently, there no effective screening technique available transvaginal US can only tell if ovaries enlarged or not. We have developed a new real-time co-registered photoacoustic system for in vivo imaging characterization ovaries. used to localize provides functional information about tissue angiogenesis oxygenation saturation. The consists tunable laser commercial from Alpinion Inc. cable...
This paper presents an efficient sub-sample based image compression algorithm targeted to the endoscopic application. Endoscopic images are converted from RGB YCgCo plane; non-significant color components then sub-sampled obtain better ratio without heavily affecting reconstruction quality. The uses simple integer-based Discrete Cosine Transform followed by a division-free quantization stage that results in low-cost implementation. scheme is applied both traditional wide band (WBI), as well...
