Choosing a medical specialty is pivotal moment in physician's career, shaped by personal interests, clinical experiences, and professional interactions. Obstetrics gynecology (OB-GYN) offers unique blend of surgical care focused on women's health. Given the growing demand for OB-GYN specialists, understanding factors that influence students' decisions essential workforce planning. This study compares influencing first-year final-year students at University Bonn their decision to pursue...
Abstract Introduction The emergence of handheld ultrasound devices capable connecting to cell phones or tablets heralds a significant advancement in medical technology, particularly within the field obstetrics. These offer promise immediate bedside examinations, potentially revolutionizing patient care by enabling fetal assessments diverse settings. Material and Methods This prospective study aimed validate reliability non‐piezo, chip‐based clinical obstetric practice. Conducted university...
Abstract Introduction The technical development of ultrasound devices based on silicon chips has revolutionized examinations, leading to the implementation these portable handheld (PUD) in different medical fields. However, training is necessary assure appropriate use and ensure valid results. While programs for conventional standard (SUD) have been described, no program developed thus far. Methods A obstetric examination was modified through addition an extra module focusing PUDs. After...
Abstract This study aimed to evaluate the effectiveness of a prenatal ultrasound course for medical students, focusing on enhancing competencies in fetal sonography through integration theoretical knowledge and hands-on practice. was longitudinal conducted over winter semester 2023/24. Study took place education setting, with practical sessions clinical environment instruction. Twenty students participated course. The taught by expert faculty included training live models real-life...
There is a global shortage of obstetricians and gynecologists (OB/GYN), raising concerns about patient care workforce sustainability. Germany faces particularly acute shortage, exacerbated by the impending retirement many senior consultants. This study explores career perceptions graduate-entry medical students at University Bonn, focusing on their attitudes toward in OB/GYN. A cohort fifth year (n = 213) participated this study. Surveys were administered directly via QR codes two points...
Objective structured clinical examination (OSCE) is a well-known assessment method to evaluate skills and competence in healthcare. Following the recently reformed National Competence-Based Catalog of Learning Objectives Medicine, implementation this training program for medical students now obligatory Germany. This major change requires reorganization not only programs but also themselves way they learn. We performed poll evaluating students’ opinions regarding these changes OSCE with new...
: Truncus arteriosus communis (TAC) is a rare congenital heart defect characterized by single arterial trunk that supplies systemic, pulmonary, and coronary circulations. This defect, constituting approximately 1-4% of diseases, poses significant challenges in prenatal diagnosis, management, postnatal outcomes.
XREFdb supports the investigation of protein function in context information available through work multiple organisms. In addition to facilitating association functional data among known genes from organisms, has developed strategies that provide access associated with as-yet unstudied genes. The database organizes similarity and genetic map positional diverse sources public domain facilitate investigator evaluation potential significance. is found at URL www.ncbi.nlm.nih. gov/XREFdb
The assessment of ovarian perfusion after detorsion is crucial in the surgical management patients with torsion. In current routine clinical practice, decision (preservation ovary versus oophorectomy) based on subjective impression surgeon. Intraoperative indocyanine green (ICG) angiography has been shown to sufficiently reflect tissue a potential impact procedure. Currently, there are only sparse data available utilization ICG treatment Here, we describe successful intraoperative use...
Abstract Breaking radial symmetry for anterior–posterior axis formation is one of the key developmental steps vertebrate gastrulation and established through a succession transient domains defined by morphology or gene expression. Three such were interpreted recently in rabbit to be part “three‐anchor‐point model” formation. To answer question as whether model generally applicable mammals, dynamic expression patterns four marker genes analyzed pig, where gastrulating epiblast forms from half...
Postpartum urinary retention has a wide range of publicized incidences, likely caused by frequent misdiagnosis this puerperal complication. Especially covert postpartum high number missed diagnoses due to the lack symptoms and time-extensive diagnostics via ultrasound, leading no treatment appropriate follow-up. To simplify diagnosis establish screening tool we analyzed application portable handheld-ultrasound devices (PUD) as used in Point-of-care comparison established standard ultrasound...
Abstract Background Ultrasound technology is indispensable in perinatal care due to its non-invasive and painless nature, offering vital insights into foetal development childbirth. With the academisation of midwifery Germany, there a growing necessity incorporate ultrasound training education. This paper discusses implementation an introductory obstetric curriculum tailored for students, focusing on fundamental techniques obstetrics. Materials methods We used Kern’s six-step approach...
Abstract The anterior-posterior axis is a central element of the body plan and, during amniote gastrulation, forms through several transient domains with specific morphogenetic activities. In chick, experimentally proven activity signalling molecules and transcription factors lead to concept ‘global positioning system’ for initial formation whereas in (mammotypical) rabbit embryo, series morphological or molecular are part putative ‘three-anchor-point model’. Because circular expression...
