Esophageal squamous cell carcinoma (ESCC) is believed to arise from esophageal mucosa through accumulation of both genetic and epigenetic changes. DNA methylation a critical mechanism involved in key cellular processes its deregulation has been linked many human cancers, including ESCC. The aim this study examine the global states ESCC identify potential early biomarkers. With purpose, we performed bead array analysis more than 800 cancer-related genes ten samples, matched surrounding...

Diagnosis of squamous cell carcinoma the esophagus is usually late. Staining mucosa with Lugol's solution during endoscopy has been suggested to identify early cancer/dysplasia and may improve prognosis. Lugol was tested in 96 asymptomatic subjects at risk for this tumor, who were found have atypias after exfoliative cytology southern Brazil. Biopsies obtained 'stained' 'unstained' areas esophageal histologic results compared. 'Unstained' present 64 (66.7%) instances: 44 over normal...

The esophageal squamous cell carcinoma (ESCC) is widely known as a highly lethal and poor understood cancer, then requiring the search for novel molecular markers to improve its management patients survival. Recently, ubiquitin-conjugating enzyme E2C (UBE2C) has been figuring prominent tumor biomarker candidate, once it recognized key player in cycle progression. In this way, aim of study was evaluate expression profile UBE2C gene protein ESCC samples, well diagnostic prognostic marker...

The role of HPV in esophageal squamous cell carcinoma (ESCCs) is controversial. Therefore, we determined, through different methodologies, the prevalence 264 ESCC samples from Brazil, and correlated it with presence surrogate markers clinicopathological characteristics. present 13% ESCC, a 3-fold variation between high medium incidence areas. Most positive tumors were infected HPV16, but this was not associated p16 expression, TP53 mutation status, patient age, amount tobacco or alcohol...

Esophageal squamous cell carcinoma (ESCC) presents poor prognosis, and patients diagnosed with this tumor currently lack target treatments. Therefore, in order to identify potential targets for ESCC treatment, we carried out a transcriptome analysis paired nonmalignant surrounding mucosa samples, followed by master regulator analysis, further explored the role of identified central regulatory genes through vivo vitro assays. Among transcription factors deregulated/enriched ESCC, focused on...

To correlate the expression of p53 protein and VEGF with prognosis patients submitted to curative resection treat esophageal adenocarcinoma.Forty-six adenocarcinoma, resection, were studied. The expressions assessed by immunohistochemistry in 52.2% 47.8% tumors, respectively.P53 coincided 26% cases, no correlation between these was observed. None clinicopathological factors showed a significant or expressions. There association long-term survival. The did not adenocarcinoma resection.

It is known that some nitrosamines preferably affect particular organs because of their organospecificity. Diethylnitrosamine (DEN) one the most powerful for experimentally inducing esophagus cancer. The present study aimed to evaluate rate and type epithelial lesions induced by DEN in mice. We also assessed role alcohol N-nitrosonornicotine (NNN) as promoters this carcinogenesis. A total 208 female mice (Mus musculus) were allocated five experimental groups: group 1, water only (controls);...

ABSTRACT Background: Southern Brazil has one of the highest incidences esophageal squamous cell carcinoma in world. Transthoracic esophagectomy allows more complete abdominal and thoracic lymphadenectomy than transhiatal. However, this is associated with less morbidity. Aim: To analyze outcomes prognostic factors cancer treated transhiatal procedure. Methods: All patients selected for approach were included as a potentially curative treatment overall survival, operative time, lymph node...
