Aeolian dune dimensions and migration rates are analysed along the Ceará coast, north‐east Brazil. Dunes that currently mobile coast composed of barchans sand sheets. The results show maintain an equilibrium form, which can be characterized by values dimensionless shape parameters H/W W/L , where H is height, W wing‐to‐wing width L length. highly mobile, with average 17·5 m year −1 for 10 calculated were found to depend strongly on both sheets, i.e. larger is, lower rate will be. This size...

Abstract Large gaps in reef distribution may hinder the dispersal of marine organisms, interrupting processes vital to maintenance biodiversity. Here we show presence and location extensive habitats on continental shelf between Amazon Reef System (ARS) Eastern Brazilian (ERS), two complexes off eastern South America. Formations located 20–50 m deep include both biogenic geogenic structures. The diverse assemblages suggests widespread occurrence rocky substrates below 50 m. These represent an...

Beach-rock exposures provide a record of Holocene sea-level rise along the 560-km-long northeast-facing coast Ceará, Brazil, that differs from available other 4300 km Brazilian coastline further south. Whereas documentation is southern Brazil to show sea levels as much 5 m above today's level, our observations northeastern indicate level here was not present-day during Holocene. Near Jericoacoara, about 240 northwest Fortaleza, characterized by strong surf, Precambrian rocks crop out under...

Abstract Coring and acoustic surveying (3·5 kHz) in both rivers lakes Central Amazonia provide additional insights into the Late Quaternary hydrological sedimentological development of Amazon River its tributaries. Erosion accumulation phases were found to be linked sea level changes. The low phase during last glacial maximum caused deep incision erosion major tributaries such as Rio Negro, 1500 km upstream from mouth. A 3·5‐kHz profiling suggests a lowering water by at least 30 m Manaus....
