Consciousness requires a dynamic balance of integration and segregation in brain networks. We report an fMRI-based metric, the integration-segregation difference (ISD), which captures two key network properties: efficiency (integration) clustering (segregation). With this we quantify state transitions from conscious wakefulness to unresponsiveness induced by anesthetic propofol. The observed changes ISD suggest profound shift towards networks during anesthesia. A common unimodal-transmodal...

More than 30 human degenerative diseases result from protein aggregation such as Alzheimer's disease (AD) and type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM). Islet amyloid deposits, a hallmark in T2DM, are found pancreatic islets of more 90% T2DM patients. An association between amylin reduction β-cell mass was also established by post-mortem studies. A strategy preventing aggregation-related disorders is to inhibit the associated toxicity. In this study, we demonstrated that two inhibitors, lipoic acid...

Haptic sensors based on piezoelectric sensor arrays with pin-type modules which have high responses and dynamic sensing capabilities are designed studied for surface topography measurements. Unlike the human finger, most flexible tactile designs do not detect depth information of surfaces well, change at mm level despite fact that they a good sensitivity pressure or force. To enhance ability to objects, combining module excellent monitoring in direction by spring is developed this paper....

Abstract We present a new strategy to dramatically enhance the stability of freestanding lipid bilayers. found that an addition water in oil emulsion stabilizer, SPAN 80 solvent phase guarantees nearly millimeter-scale stable The permeability, bilayer area, contact angle, and interfacial tension were measured as function time 80-to-lipid weight ratio (Φ ) with several different solvents. Surprisingly, 80, instead remaining bilayer, was moved out during formation. Also we studied effect on...

Consciousness requires a dynamic balance of integration and segregation in functional brain networks. An optimal integration-segregation depends on two key aspects connectivity: global efficiency (i.e., integration) clustering segregation). We developed new fMRI-based measure, termed the difference (ISD), which captures both aspects. used this metric to quantify changes state from conscious wakefulness loss responsiveness induced by anesthetic propofol. The observed ISD suggest profound...

Accurate and generalizable classification of brain states is essential for understanding their neural underpinnings improving clinical diagnostics. Traditionally, functional connectivity patterns graph-theoretic metrics have been utilized. However, cortical gradient features, which reflect global organization, offer a complementary approach. We hypothesized that machine learning model integrating these three feature sets would effectively discriminate between baseline atypical across wide...

The neural basis of conscious perception remains incompletely understood. While cortical mechanisms content have been extensively investigated, the role subcortical structures, including thalamus, less explored. Abstract Understanding neural mechanisms of consciousness remains a challenging question in neuroscience. A central debate the field concerns whether arises from global interactions that involve multiple brain regions or focal activity, such as sensory cortex. Additionally, theories diverge between Global Neuronal Workspace (GNW) hypothesis, which emphasizes frontal and parietal areas, Integrated Information Theory (IIT), focuses on information integration within posterior cortical regions....
