Sub-scale coils are being manufactured and tested at Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory in order to develop wind-and-react Bi 2 Sr CaCu O x (Bi-2212) magnet technology for future graded accelerator use. Previous Bi-2212 showed significant leakage of the conductors' core constituents environment, which can occur during partial melt reaction around 890°C pure oxygen. The main origin observed is intrinsic wires, issue therefore addressed wire manufacturing level. We report on further...

Piezoelectric components offer several potential advantages to power conversion including high density and efficiency capabilities compared magnetics at small scales. Converter architectures have been developed for efficient utilization of piezoelectrics, but without fundamental criteria designing the piezoelectric themselves. In this article, we derive figures merit achievable efficiencies handling densities materials vibration modes based on realistic in a converter. These are likewise...

Li-O2 batteries can provide significantly higher gravimetric energy density than Li-ion batteries, but their practical use is limited by a number of fundamental issues associated with oxidizing discharge products such as Li2O2 and LiOH during charging. Soluble inorganic redox mediators (RMs) like LiI LiBr have been shown to enhance round-trip efficiency where different solvents greatly shift the potential RMs, altering overpotential charging, well power against product. Unfortunately, other...

Termination losses in planar magnetics can be important high-current, high-frequency designs. In this paper, we elucidate the loss mechanisms involved and offer simplified models for estimating their impact so that designers using gauge potential significance a given design. The use of model possible mitigation strategies are explored an example case study 20:1 transformer. Experimental results highlight importance termination effects demonstrate relative performance strategies.

Piezoelectric energy storage has several potential advantages for use in power conversion; it offers very high density and efficiency capabilities, especially compared to magnetics at small scales. Converter architectures have been developed efficient utilization of piezoelectrics, but without fundamental criteria selecting the piezoelectric devices themselves. In this paper, we derive figures merit materials electronics based on achievable density, assuming realistic converter operation. We...

Abstract The following conjecture of Brualdi and Shen is proven in this paper: let n be partitioned into natural numbers no one which greater than ( + 1) / 2. Then, given any sequence wins for the players some tournament among players, there a partition blocks with cardinalities by those numbers, wins, that transitive on within each block. © 2003 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. Abstract An Expert System to Guide the Selection of Design Methods: Test-BedThe objective this paper is present development an expert system guide test-bed forthe selection design methods solve problems. The authors observed that for seniordesign courses, instructors are faced with dilemma which teach a particulardesign problem. On one extreme instructor can plethora urgencyof transferring largest amount knowledge students. This may resultcounterproductive since students will be overloaded...
