Peak fusion power production of 6.2\ifmmode\pm\else\textpm\fi{}0.4 MW has been achieved in TFTR plasmas heated by deuterium and tritium neutral beams at a total 29.5 MW. These have an inferred central alpha particle density 1.2\ifmmode\times\else\texttimes\fi{}${10}^{17}$ ${\mathrm{m}}^{\mathrm{\ensuremath{-}}3}$ without the appearance either disruptive magnetohydrodynamics events or detectable changes Alfv\'en wave activity. The measured loss rate energetic particles agreed with...
A library's website is a virtual point of contact for interacting with its patrons. Ensuring has easily findable content critical providing access to library resources and highlighting services events. One tool assisting findability chatbot, form artificial intelligence software. In this case study, Lehman College's Leonard Lief Library implemented Ivy, proprietary educational software chatbot on website, the first kind an academic library. This functioned as new that assisted users seeking...
After many years of fusion research, the conditions needed for a D–T reactor have been approached on Tokamak Fusion Test Reactor (TFTR) [Fusion Technol. 21, 1324 (1992)]. For first time unique phenomena present in plasma are now being studied laboratory plasma. The magnetic experiments to study plasmas using nearly equal concentrations deuterium and tritium carried out TFTR. At maximum power 10.7 MW, 39.5 MW neutral-beam heating, supershot discharge 6.7 high-βp following current rampdown....
The Tomamak Fusion Test reactor has performed initial high-power experiments with the plasma fueled nominally equal densities of deuterium and tritium. Compared to pure plasmas, energy stored in electron ions increased by \ensuremath{\sim}20%. These increases indicate improvements confinement associated use tritium possibly heating electrons \ensuremath{\alpha} particles created D-T fusion reactions.
Abstract TFTR has begun its campaign to study deuterium-tritium fusion under reactor-like conditions. Variable amounts of deuterium and tritium neutral beam power have been used maximize power, alpha heating, investigate particle confinement, search for driven plasma instabilities. Additional areas include energy transport ICRF heating schemes DT plasmas, retention, in high βp plasmas. The majority this work is done the supershot confinement regime. To obtain supershots, extensive limiter...
The deuterium-tritium (D-T) experimental program on the Tokamak Fusion Test Reactor (TFTR) is underway and routine tritium operations have been established. technology upgrades made to TFTR facility demonstrated be sufficient for supporting both maintenance an extended D-T campaign. To date fusion power has increased ∼9 MW several physics results of importance reactor regime obtained: electron temperature, ion plasma stored energy all increase substantially in relative D-D at same neutral...
The final hardware modifications for tritium operation have been completed the Tokamak Fusion Test Reactor (TFTR) [Fusion Technol. 21, 1324 (1992)]. These activities include preparation of gas handling system, installation additional neutron shielding, conversion toroidal field coil cooling system from water to a FluorinertTM modification vacuum handle tritium, preparation, and testing neutral beam deuterium–deuterium (D–D) run simulate expected deuterium–tritium (D–T) operation. Testing...
Purpose The purpose of this paper is to describe how the Hudson County Community College Library hosted a Super Smash Bros. for Wii U Tournament as part its Fall 2015 and Spring 2016 programming, discuss what it learned from hosting event. Design/methodology/approach This details community college library planned, experience running Tournament. It will also continued use plan additional video game-based programming. Findings was generally well received by student attendees. However, feedback...
Two new U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) standards have been prepared to assist in the design and regulation magnetic fusion facilities. They are DOE-STD-6002-96, “Safety Magnetic Fusion Facilities – Requirements,” DOE-STD-6003-96 Guidance.” The first standard sets forth requirements, mostly based on Code Federal Regulations, deemed necessary for safe operation facilities a set safety principles use design. second provides guidance how meet requirements identified DOE-STD-6002-96. It is...
This paper explores the issue of regulations as they apply to current and future fusion experimental machines. It addresses regulatory issues, used for fusion, Tokamak Fusion Test Reactor [TFTR] experience with regulations, achieve fusion's safety environmental potential.
In 2016, Hudson County (NJ) Community College (HCCC) deployed several wireless keyboards and mice with its iMac computers. Shortly after deployment, library staff found that each device’s required USB receiver (a.k.a. dongle) would disappear frequently. As a result, HCCC developed 3D printed port covers to enclose these dongles. This, for time, proved very successful in preventing the issue. This article will discuss development of covers, their what worked did not work about project.
This article describes one community college library’s experience creating and implementing a makerspace. It discusses the setup process, lessons learned, criticisms from patrons staff, more.
