A stable narrow-band green phosphor MgAl<sub>2</sub>O<sub>4</sub>:Mn<sup>2+</sup>peaking at 525 nm with a full-width half-maximum of 35 and quantum efficiency 45% upon 450 blue-light excitation is demonstrated, which has good promising for wide color gamut backlight display.
