The present paper introduces the development and verification of two ship performance models which have been implemented in a voyage planning tool designed for summer Arctic operations commercial vessels. A novel ice resistance estimation algorithm ice-floe conditions is models. fuel consumption predicted using both are compared against full-scale measurements collected on cargo lower ice-class Northern Sea Route. This work found that meet purpose estimating such identified directions future...

Two large coastal dune sheets, including the Santa Maria sheet and Vandenberg sheet, have been analyzed for late-Quaternary distributions, ages volumes of sand deposition. Six new thermoluminescence (TL) establish age range deposition from >106±21 ka to <4.1 in study area. Seven late-Pleistocene TL 14C dated mid-depth samples (≤30 m depth subsurface), yield a mean 33 deposits. Both Holocene deposits transition weathered middle-Holocene unweathered latest-Holocene after 4 ka. Marine...

Abstract The electroreductions of 1‐methylindole and several benzofurans were investigated compared with the corresponding alkali‐metal/liquid ammonia reductions. cathodic reductions performed using a simple apparatus aqueous THF as solvent found to be regioselective. Over‐reduction other side reactions avoided. possible mechanism is discussed.

Abstract With the effects of global warming, Arctic is presenting a new environment where numerous ice floes are floating on open sea surface. Whilst this has unprecedentedly improved shipping navigability and brought about significant opportunities, interaction such with ships yet to be understood, thus hindering appropriate assessment corresponding ship performance. This paper presents work developing empirical equations estimate resistance. Based extensive data from validated...

This paper focuses on the application of Data Driven Documents (D3), used for interactive system data exploration and visualisation, to an integrated ship design model, Whole Ship Model (WSM), which was developed as part Low Carbon Shipping in Changing Climates projects. The WSM combines a parametric operational profile range performance enhancing or emissions reducing technologies allow cost different designs be calculated. In this pre-calculate thousands that can then searched filtered by...

The kinetics of the reduction four dialkylpyrrolidinium cations (R2Py+) at mercury cathodes have been investigated 25 °C in DMF. products R2Py(Hg5) are solids and processes result characteristic current (i)vs. time (t) transients during potential-step experiments. Analysis i vs. t showed that formation involves three-dimensional instantaneous nucleation growth. number nuclei involved (Nsat) rates (AN∞) were calculated compared for R2Py+. Both dependent on size R2Py+ larger smaller cations....
