Objective: The aim of this study was to analyze outcomes open lobectomy (OL), VATS, and robotic-assisted (RL). Summary Background Data: Robotic-assisted has seen increasing adoption for treatment early-stage lung cancer. Comparative data regarding these approaches is largely from single-institution case series or administrative datasets. Methods: Retrospective collected 21 institutions 2013 2019. All consecutive cases performed clinical stage IA-IIIA cancer were included. Neoadjuvant...
Objective: The aim of this study was to analyze overall survival (OS) robotic-assisted lobectomy (RL), video-assisted thoracoscopic (VATS), and open (OL) performed by experienced thoracic surgeons across multiple institutions. Summary Background Data: Surgeons have increasingly adopted RL for resection early-stage lung cancer. Comparative data following these approaches is largely from single-institution case series or administrative sets. Methods: Retrospective collected 21 institutions...
ObjectiveTracheobronchomalacia is a progressive, debilitating disease with limited treatment options. Open tracheobronchoplasty (TBP) an accepted surgical option for management of severe tracheobronchomalacia. This study examined the outcomes first reported series robot-assisted TBP (R-TBP).MethodsWe retrospectively reviewed records patients clinical suspicion tracheobronchomalacia who had dynamic computed tomography scan and subsequent R-TBP from May 2016 to December 2017.ResultsFour...
During the past decade, robotic surgical systems have been increasingly utilized to perform highly complex procedures. In fact, robotic-assisted approach treatment of many gynecological and urological procedures has become standard-of-care. The use system in thoracic surgery is its early development. Video-assisted thoracoscopic (VATS) was propelled forward 1990’s without full appreciation for long-term consequences, increased cost or therapeutic benefit. trend projected surpass adoption...
This study reports the results of an international expert consensus process evaluating assessment intraoperative air leaks (IAL) and treatment postoperative prolonged (PAL) utilizing a Delphi process, with aim helping standardization improving practice.A panel 45 questions was developed submitted to working group experts in minimally invasive lung cancer surgery. Modified methodology used review responses, including 3 rounds voting. The defined priori as >50% agreement among experts....
We describe the technique for first robotically assisted bilateral bronchoplasty treatment of tracheobronchomalacia. Since 1954, this disease process has been treated with a right thoracotomy and posterior splinting tracheal membrane mesh to restore C-shape trachea. Traditional video-assisted thoracoscopic surgery limited benefit in these cases owing technical challenges. A offers dual minimally invasive port-based system while reproducing an open surgical technique.
We present a unique case of patient with clinical history distal esophageal carcinoma and CT appearance lipomatous hypertrophy the interatrial septum who displayed fluorine-18-fluorodeoxyglucose (FDG) uptake in septal fat on only second 4 serial PET/CT studies. As scans are used for initial staging carcinoma, one should not mistake more benign causes mediastinal metastasis when observing an intermittent pattern scan.
The aim of this study was to determine the average effective radiation dose and feasibility ultralow dynamic expiratory computed tomography (CT) for evaluation tracheomalacia (ULD) evaluate factors that impact image quality. This is a retrospective 64 consecutive patients from September October 2016 tracheomalacia. All studies were performed with routine inspiration chest CT followed by ULD z(kilovoltage peak (kVp) 80, 100, or 120 fixed milliamperage 10) typical (TD) (kVp 100 automated...
