We analyze the performance of Japanese open-type stock mutual funds for 1981–1992 period. The results show that, regardless measures and benchmarks employed, most underperform by between 3.6% 10.8% per annum. These tend to invest more in large stocks with low book-to-market ratios. But this feature does not explain underperformance. A potential explanation is dilution effect caused inflows funds. In Japan, a new investor an fund only pays after-tax value net asset value. conduct bootstrap...

This paper examines investment spending of Japanese firms around the asset price bubble in late-1980s and makes three contributions to our understanding how stock valuations affect investment. First, corporate responds significantly nonfundamental components during shocks; fundamentals matter less. Clearly, market is not a 'sideshow'. Second, time series variation sensitivity cash flow affected more by changes monetary policy than shifts collateral values. Finally, shocks primarily that rely...

This study introduces soil squeezing technology (SST) as an innovative approach to improvement that addresses the limitations of conventional methods in urban geotechnical projects. Unlike traditional situ mixing, SST uses displacement, compaction, and controlled solidification effectively increase cohesion strength while reducing voids. By minimizing reliance on large mixing plants bulky machinery, offers significant advantages confined spaces, providing accessibility operational...

Abstract We compare the impact of broad‐based equity incentives and government R&D subsidies on efficiency corporate innovation. Chinese corporations that offer for employees managers demonstrate greater investment efficiency, as evidenced by a higher ratio innovation outputs to cost allocation. Conversely, firms receiving lower efficiency. Accounting endogenous treatments in multi‐treatment framework, we suggest an information‐sharing environment is critical efficient capital Government...

A photoimprint-based immobilization process is presented for cylindrical viruses on the surface of an azobenzene-bearing acrylate polymer by using atomic force microscopy (AFM). Tobacco mosaic virus (TMV), 18 nm in diameter and ca. 300 length, was employed as a model virus. First, droplet aqueous solution containing TMV placed surface. After drying droplet, irradiated with light at wavelength 470 from blue-light-emitting diodes. Finally, washed detergents. The observed each step AFM. shown...

The LEPs during device operation is shown to result from decreased emissive material fluorescence efficiency a loss charge‐carrier balance. Laser photolysis results show that low‐energy sites are generated LEP driving, leading quenching green emission, but not red emission....

This paper investigates the effect of direct lending by government owned banks (GOBs) on corporate investment for publicly traded industrial firms in Japan, during financial crisis the1990’s. We find that increases GOB have a strong incremental impact investment, especially more credit constrained firms. The are consistent with an efficient lending. Our results show intervention GOBs can be effective mitigating constraints and stimulating crisis.
