(1981). Mosses of Europe and the Azores; an annotated list species, with synonyms from recent literature. Journal Bryology: Vol. 11, No. 4, pp. 609-689.
In bats, sexual segregation has been described in relation to differential use of roosting and foraging habitats. It is possible that variation may also exist between genders the different prey types. However, until recently this idea was difficult test owing poorly resolved taxonomy dietary studies. Here, we high-throughput sequencing describe gender-related diet composition European free-tailed bat ( Tadarida teniotis ), while controlling for effects age season. We analysed guano pellets...
A new species Ypsolopha rhinolophi Corley is described from northern Portugal and south-east France. It resembles Y. alpella (Denis Schiffermüller, 1775) lucella (Fabricius, but shows clear differences both in DNA barcode male female genitalia. Male genitalia of are illustrated for the first time. The has been collected at light, reared larvae on Quercus pyrenaica Willd. recognised fragments obtained droppings horseshoe bats.
Following the description of Cacochroa rosetella Corley, 2018 it soon became clear that there was considerable confusion regarding identity permixtella (Herrich-Schäffer, 1854). In this paper genus is revised and resolved, a neotype chosen for C. nearly all records verified. Male female genitalia are remarkably different from those remaining species, which here placed in Rosetea Corley Ferreira, gen. nov. The distributions three species previously described clarified. has distribution...
Huemer & Karsholt (2018) presented a comprehensive revision of the Palaearctic genus Megacraspedus Zeller, 1839, recognising four species as present in Portugal. Prior to this Corley (2015) included only two Portuguese list, but neither these is given for Portugal by (2018). In paper differences are reconciled and new (M. dalei Corley, sp. nov., M. transmontanus dinensis terryae nov.) described, that were not (2018); we also add additional DNA barcode data female genitalia illustrations...
The Alentejo region includes more than a third of the entire Portuguese territory. Nevertheless, it is least studied area in entomology and specifically lepidopterology. Likewise, little known about Mértola’s insect fauna. In this municipality south-east Alentejo, studies are being conducted to fill knowledge gap. work, we present data regarding Heterocera research as result fieldwork using light traps different habitats seasons. A total 438 species were identified, including four new...
Abstract Farmland abandonment and the accompanying natural succession are largely perceived as unwanted amongst many European conservationists due to alleged negative effects on biodiversity levels. Here, we test this assumption by analysing alpha, beta gamma diversity patterns of macro-moth communities in habitats an ecological gradient, from extensively managed meadows scrub-encroached wooded sites. Macro-moths were light-trapped at 84 fixed circular sampling sites arranged a semi-nested...
Abstract Increasing evidence for global insect declines is prompting a renewed interest in the survey of whole communities. DNA metabarcoding can contribute to assessing diverse communities over range spatial and temporal scales, but efforts are still needed optimize standardize procedures. Here, we describe test methodological pipeline surveying nocturnal flying insects, combining automatic light traps metabarcoding. We optimized laboratory procedures then tested using 12 field samples...

The InBIO Barcoding Initiative (IBI) Dataset - DS-IBILP08 contains records of 2350 specimens moths (Lepidoptera species that do not belong to the superfamily Papilionoidea). All have been morphologically identified or subspecies level and represent 1158 in total. this dataset correspond about 42% mainland Portuguese Lepidoptera species. were collected Portugal between 2001 2022. DNA extracts over 96% are deposited IBI collection at CIBIO, Research Center Biodiversity Genetic Resources.
