A series of experiments were performed to produce a fuel source for molten salt reactor (MSR) through pyroprocessing technology. simulated LiCl–KCl–UCl3-NdCl3 system was prepared, and the U element fully recovered using liquid cadmium cathode (LCC) by applying constant current. As result, purified with an UCl3 concentration lower than 100 ppm. Subsequently, U/RE ingot prepared melting RE metals in Y2O3 crucible at 1473 K as surrogate RE-rich product from pyroprocessing. The produced sliced...

Abstract A mesh-type liquid cadmium cathode (LCC) structure has been devised to improve the performance of electro-winning process for recovery actinides in a molten chloride system. For verification its performance, electrodeposition experiments uranium from LiCl-KCl-UCl 3 salt were conducted at 773 K different current densities using LCC structure. Uranium was successfully collected over 5ߙwt.ߙ% without growing dendrites. The prevented uncontrolled growth dendrites into electrolyte phase...
