Two new Brazilian sharpshooter species of the genus Tretogonia Melichar, 1926 are described and illustrated: diminuta sp. nov. T. elegantula nov., both from State Paraná. A redescription dentalis Emmrich, 1988 is provided based on a male Mato Grosso do Sul. This first record dentalis, originally Paraguay. Photographs line drawings for three species, as well notes taxonomy biology genus.
Four new Brazilian species of Ruppeliana are described and illustrated: R. barbarensis sp. nov., grossii longiphallus serrana the first from Minas Gerais State other three Rio de Janeiro State. The taxa can be easily distinguished by their color pattern male genitalia morphology. coronulifera (Stål, 1862) taschenbergi (Berg, 1899) synonymized with signiceps 1862). Additionally, a diagnosis genus key to provided.
Three new species of Nelidina DeLong, 1953 are described and illustrated, N. bifida sp. nov., coronata nov. platypenis all from Peru. A key to males the six known is presented a record for sportula Kramer, 1967 added.
Three new Brazilian sharpshooter species of the genus Geitogonalia Young, 1977 are described: G. buccina sp. nov., piei and tetracorni nov. The first is known from states Rio de Janeiro Minas Gerais, whereas second third state Paraná. We provide descriptions male female (except for piei), photographs illustrations, as well a revised diagnosis key to five species.
A new genus of Gyponini, Sakakibarana gen. nov., is proposed and its type species S. amazonica sp. nov. described illustrated based on specimens from the Amazon Rainforest Northern Brazil (states Amazonas Pará) French Guiana. The can be distinguished other members Gyponini by following morphological features: robust body, short crown, crown face transition distinct subfoliaceous, pronotum strongly declivous, male pygofer with caudal process, aedeagus dorsal apodemes a pair processes....
A new species of the Neotropical sharpshooter genus Iragua Melichar, 1926, I. albinoi sp. nov., is described and illustrated from Colombian department Huila (holotype deposited in Coleção Entomológica Pe. Jesus S. Moure, Departamento de Zoologia, Setor Ciências Biológicas, Universidade Federal do Paraná). The taxon can be readily distinguished other 13 known by presence a pair unciform processes at aedeagal atrium, as well color pattern forewings. first detailed description female terminalia...
The Cicadellinae genus Apogonalia Evans, 1947 currently has 22 species and occurs from Arizona (USA) to Panama the Antilles. Color pattern female genital structures of 21 are here described illustrated (the A. nielsoni Felix & Mejdalani, 2006 is unknown). Comparative morphological notes included. angusta Freytag, 2004 for first time. A key males females all known provided.
Three new Brazilian species of the sharpshooter genus Amblyscarta Stål, 1869 are described and illustrated: A. elianeae sp. nov. (states Paraná Minas Gerais), souzalopesi (State Rio de Janeiro), pinna Mato Grosso). The first two from Atlantic Forest, whereas third is Amazon Forest. Cicada unifasciata Fabricius, 1803 redescribed transferred to based on specimens Guyana northern Brazil (Amazon Forest). This Fabrician type monobasic Strictogonia Melichar, 1926, which thus considered a junior...
Three new South American leafhopper genera of the tribe Gyponini are proposed: Beltrana gen. nov. based on reticulata et sp. from French Guiana, Fulana brasiliensis Brazil, and Sicrana plana Brazil Ecuador. Diagnoses, detailed descriptions, illustrations provided for each taxon, as well comparisons with closely related genera. In addition, following synonyms Freytagana DeLong, 1975 a junior synonym Marganana 1948 F. gibsoni M. (Marganana) mexicana DeLong & Freytag, 1963. Chilella 1967 is...
The external morphology of two cicadelline species, Versigonalia ruficauda (Walker, 1851) (Cicadellini) and Tretogonia cribrata Melichar, 1926 (Proconiini), is analyzed. head, axillary sclerites, wing venation, female genitalia, tegumentary processes are described. Taxonomy is essential to biological sciences and the priority field in face of biodiversity crisis. The industry scientific publications has made extensive promotion display bibliometric indexes, resulting side effects such as Journal Impact Factor™ (JIF) mania. Inadequacies widely used indexes assess taxonomic are among impediments for progress this field. Based on an unusually high proportion self-citations, mega-journal Zootaxa, focused zoological taxonomy, was suppressed from Citation...
Neponymphes godoii Zamboni, 2001 is redescribed and illustrated based on specimens from the Lower Cretaceous of Northeastern Brazil (Araripe Basin, Crato Formation; upper Aptian, ~114 Ma). The redescription, both adult nymphal stages, shows that external morphological characters N. were fairly similar to those recent members Belostomatini. Hence, morphology in this tribe has apparently not changed much since Cretaceous.
