The thermomechanical behavior of a high‐alumina refractory that contains 10 wt% synthetic spinel has been studied. Results have correlated with the microstructural and mineralogical evolutions using X‐ray diffraction scanning electron microscopy, as function firing temperature. Dry, castable, raw‐material mixtures were sieved to <125 μm, separate fraction is considered matrix this castable. Matrix samples obtained for characterization, results compared those corresponding entire...

Oxide ceramics are sensitive to slow crack growth because adsorption of water can take place at the tip, leading a strong decrease surface energy in humid (or air) conditions. This is major drawback concerning demanding, long-term applications such as orthopaedic implants. Here we show that specific nanostructuration ceramic oxides lead resistance never reached before, similar covalent ceramics.

A light scattering model under the Rayleigh-Gans-Debye approximation has been developed for polycristalline alumina. The states that transmittance of dense alumina ceramics basically depends not only on maximum grain size but also preferential orientation their c-axis, or texture. effect texture in transparency experimentally measured several samples with different and compared to obtained from x-ray Rietveld refinements a very good agreement. allows represent optical data simple way...

Remote sensing was employed for the first time to measure nitric oxide (NO) levels of on-road light-duty motor vehicles Metropolitan Area Mexico City (MAMC). The sensor placed at 12 different sites also measured concentration CO2, CO, and total hydrocarbons (THC) in exhaust emissions. A database compiled containing 122 800 readings, which 84 650 (69%) records were valid emissions measurements. HC, NO readings 68.9, 63.4, 62.9%, respectively, attempted Furthermore, 42 822 number-plate-matched...
