Ternary magnesium alloys with low combined addition of elements gadolinium and zinc were developed in the present work, their microstructures, mechanical properties, vitro degradation behaviors, cytotoxicity being systematically studied. Furthermore, Mg-1.8Zn-0.2Gd alloy, best performance, was implanted into Sprague Dawley rats to examine its vivo performance for up 6 months. It found that Mg-1.8Zn-0.2Gd, composed a single α-Mg phase, owned excellent strength toughness comparable CE marked...
The effect of trace addition 0.2 wt.% Zn on the microstructures and mechanical properties age-hardening Mg–4.2Y–2.5Nd–1Gd–0.6Zr (wt.%) (WE43) alloy has been investigated. As compared with WE43 after solid solution treatment at 525 °C, block-like Zn–Zr phase was still observed in WE43-0.2Zn alloy. However, time for to get peak hardness 250 °C two hours, a half earlier than that alloy, meaning accelerated age precipitation kinetics achieved due Zn. Microalloyed enhanced ultimate tensile...
Magnesium alloys containing rare earth elements (RE) have received considerable attention in recent years due to their high mechanical strength and good heat-resisting performance. Among them, Mg–5%Y–4%RE (WE54) magnesium alloy is a sand casting for use at temperatures up 300 °C, which of great interest engineers the aerospace industry. In present work, solidification behavior Zr-containing WE54 Zr-free was investigated by computer-aided cooling curve analysis (CA-CCA) technique. And...
Effects of rare-earth (RE) and precipitates on twin evolution in cast Mg-10Gd-3Y-0.5Zr (wt.%) (GW103) alloys solid solution (T4) aged (T6) states are investigated performing quasi-static room temperature compression tests microstructural characterization. It is found that both {10–12} {11–21} extension twins (ET1 ET2) can appear the T4 T6 but with different emergence sequences. As aging heat treatment leads to consumption RE solutes which could inhibit atomic shuffling required for...
