Abstract We examined three immunoassay techniques for measuring apolipoprotein B in serum and major lipoprotein density fractions from normolipidemic hyperlipoproteinemic persons, comparing values by electroimmunoassay, radioimmunoassay, radial immunodiffusion assay with those determined gravimetrically. Thirty-five patients operated on for uncomplicated gallstone disease were studied. Eight with prebeta hyperlipoproteinemia and 11 normolipo-proteinemic had sucrose substituted 800 Kcal of their daily caloric intake two weeks prior to the operation. The effects in vivo of a biguanide (Metformin) on intestinal enzyme activities and vitamin B12 folic acid absorption can be summarized as follows. 1. the brush border mucosal cell upper intestine were influenced. 2. disaccharidase reduced, although not to such an extent expected impair disaccharide absorption. 3.
