What services are available and where racial ethnic minorities receive long-term supports (LTSS) have resulted in a lower quality of care life for racial/ethnic minority users. These disparities only likely to worsen during the COVID-19 pandemic, as pandemic has disproportionately affected communities both rate infection virus-related mortality. By examining these context we bring light challenges issues faced LTSS by with regard this virus well that always existed.
Abstract Background and Objectives The proportion of racial/ethnic minority older adults in nursing homes (NHs) has increased dramatically will surpass the white by 2030.Yet, little is known about groups’ experiences related to quality life (QOL). QOL a person-centered measure, capturing multiple aspects well-being. NH been commonly measured using clinical care indicators, but there growing recognition for need include QOL. This study examines role individual race/ethnicity, facility...
This study examines the racial/ethnic disparity among nursing home (NH) residents using a self-reported, validated measure of quality life (QoL) long-stay in Minnesota. Blinder–Oaxaca decomposition techniques determine which resident and facility factors are potential sources disparities QoL. Black, Indigenous, other People Color (BIPOC) report lower QoL than White residents. Facility structural characteristics being NH with high proportion who BIPOC that have largest explanatory share...
Objectives: To investigate trends in racial/ethnic differences nursing home (NH) residents’ quality of life (QoL) and assess these patterns within between facilities. Method: Data include resident-reported QoL surveys ( n = 60,093), the Minimum Set, facility-level characteristics 376 facilities) for Minnesota. Hierarchical linear models were estimated to identify by resident race/ethnicity facility minority composition 2011–2015. Results: White residents low-proportion facilities reported...
Family satisfaction, while recognized as important, is frequently missing from validated measures of long-term care quality. This the first study to compare family satisfaction across two states using and organizational structural factors associated with higher nursing home care. Data sources are surveys Minnesota (MN) Ohio (OH), linked facility characteristics Certification Survey Provider Enhanced Reports (CASPER) for both (N = 378 facilities MN; N 926 OH). Activities food were among...
Uncovering subgroups of nursing home residents sharing similar preference patterns is useful for developing systematic approaches to person-centered care. This study aimed (i) identify among long-stay residents, and (ii) examine the associations with resident facility characteristics. was a national cross-sectional analysis Minimum Data Set assessments in 2016. Using resident-rated importance 16 items Preference Assessment Tool as indicators, we conducted latent class examined their We...
This analysis examines the quality of evidence (QOE) for 1472 outcomes linked to interventions where QOE was rated in 42 systematic reviews randomised clinical trials and/or observational studies across different topics. Not applicable.76 reviews.Strength ratings by initial reviewers.Among 76 reviews, were available only 42, netting comparisons. Of these, 57% included studies; 4% as high and 12% moderate; rest low or insufficient. The varied topic: 74% surgical study pairs insufficient,...
Abstract Background and Objectives Despite research documenting gender differences in numerous outcomes later life, we know little about quality of life (QoL) for nursing home (NH) residents. This study examines the relationship between residents’ QoL, including possible reasons observed. Research Design Methods We used a mixed-methods design surveys with random sample Minnesota NH residents using multidimensional measure QoL (n = 9,852), resident clinical data, facility-level...
Abundant evidence documents racial/ethnic disparities in access, quality of care, and life (QoL) among nursing home (NH) residents who are Black, Indigenous, people color (BIPOC) compared with White residents. BIPOC more likely to be admitted lower NHs experience worse outcomes. Yet, little is known about processes for differences QoL receiving care high-proportion NHs. This study presents an examination the facilities while highlighting variability between these facilities.Guided by...
ObjectivesAmong nursing home (NH) residents with Alzheimer's disease (AD) and AD-related dementias (AD/ADRD), racial/ethnic disparities in quality of care exist. However, little is known about life (QoL). This study examines differences self-reported QoL among NH AD/ADRD.
Quality of life (QoL) is important to nursing home (NH) residents, yet QoL only publicly reported in a few states, part because concerns regarding measure stability. This study used data from Minnesota, one the states that collects measures, test stability over time. To do so, we assessed responses two resident cohorts who were surveyed subsequent years (2012-2013 and 2014-2015). Stability was measured using intra-class correlation (ICC) obtained hierarchical linear models. Overall had ICCs...
Racial/ethnic composition of nursing home (NH) plays a particularly important role in NH quality. A key methodological issue is defining when an serves low versus high proportion racially/ethnically diverse residents. Using the Minimum Data Set from 2015 merged with Certification and Survey Provider Enhanced Reports, we calculated racial/ethnic U.S.-based NHs for Black or Hispanic residents specifically, general Black, Indigenous, People Color (BIPOC) grouping long-stay We examined different...
Purpose: Family satisfaction, while recognized as important, is frequently missing from validated measures of long-term care quality. This paper uses two states and identifies organizational structural factors associated with higher family satisfaction nursing home care. Methods: Data sources are surveys Minnesota (MN) (N = 13,646) Ohio (OH) 26,460), linked to facility characteristics CASPER for both (N=378 facilities MN; N=926 OH). We used multivariate analyses identify the predictors...
Abstract Background Over 2 billion people suffer from vision impairment or blindness globally, and access to validated visual measurement tools in imperative accurately describing managing the burden of eye disease. The present study applies contemporary psychometric validation techniques widely used 33-item Indian Visual Function Questionnaire (IND-VFQ-33). Methods We first estimated polychoric correlation between each pair items. Next, an unrotated oblique Promax rotated factor analysis,...
Nursing facility (NF) resident case-mix is changing nationally to include more minority residents. Minority residents are younger, have higher rates of mental illness, and better function than White Racial segregation in NFs also means that minorities tend live different from We investigated the interplay between race living a high proportion Minnesota on resident-reported quality life (QoL) using validated QoL measures used by state for public reporting. Both individual race/ethnicity were...
