The linear and nonlinear optical properties have been determined for a new organic material 4-(N,N-dimethylamino)-3-acetamidonitrobenzene. Abstract In the course of melt‐flow crystallization studies with ultrahigh‐molecular‐weight polyethylene (UHMWPE), we observed that melt UHMWPE is highly anisotropic above its equilibrium melting point and has a tendency to fibrillate. An examination anisotropy by optical, Thermal, x‐ray analysis indicates persists at 345°C, i.e., temperature which polymer degrades under nitrogen, appears similar smectic liquid‐crystalline phase.
