東北地方北部に位置するカルデラ湖の十和田湖において,2021年に水生植物相の調査を行った。調査の結果,水生植物20分類群が確認され,このうち既報の種1種が再同定され,5種が新産種であった。更新された植物相データに基づき,山ノ内ら(2016)と同じ手法で65湖沼を対象に現存種数と現存種の希少性を指標とした保全上の重要性を評価した。その結果,十和田湖は現存種数の多さでは65湖沼中19位から同12位に,希少性では65湖沼中17位から同8位に評価が向上し,これまで考えられていたより保全上の重要性が高いことが明らかになった。また,妥当な評価のためには精度の高い水生植物相データが重要であることが確認された。2014年に初めて十和田湖への侵入が報告されたコカナダモは,2021年には湖内全体に拡大して一部で大きな群落を形成しており,在来生態系への影響が懸念された。
