Abstract Phages are increasingly considered promising alternatives to target drug-resistant bacterial pathogens. However, their often-narrow host range can make it challenging find matching phages against bacteria of interest. Current computational tools do not accurately predict interactions at the strain level in a way that is relevant and properly evaluated for practical use. We present PhageHostLearn, machine learning system predicts strain-level between receptor-binding proteins...
Abstract Klebsiella pneumoniae is one of the most threatening multi-drug resistant pathogens today, with phage therapy being a promising alternative for personalized treatments. However, intrinsic capsule diversity in spp. poses substantial barrier to host range, complicating development broad-spectrum phage-based Here, we have isolated and genomically characterized phages capable infecting each acquired 77 reference serotypes spp ., including capsular types widespread among high-risk K....

Abstract Phage-host interactions have been studied using one or a few phages and hosts in simple, controlled systems. Here, we implemented an experimental design to evolve 12-phage cocktail highly diverse environment, including combination of 39 Klebsiella spp. capsular types. Our results showed how modulate their host range through different strategies, adopting more generalist lifestyle maintaining specificity, depending on the versatility receptor binding proteins. Some these proteins...
