Understanding how flowering phenology responds to warming and cooling (i.e., symmetric or asymmetric response) is needed predict the response of future climate change that will happen with occurrence warm cold years superimposed upon a long‐term trend. A three‐year reciprocal translocation experiment was performed along an elevation gradient from 3200 m 3800 in Tibetan Plateau for six alpine plants. Transplanting lower (warming) advanced first date (FFD) transplanting higher (cooling) had...
ABSTRACT Leaves are the main photosynthesis organ that directly determines crop yield and biomass. Dissecting regulatory mechanism of leaf development is crucial for food security ecosystem turn‐over. Here, we identified novel function R2R3‐MYB transcription factors CsRAXs in regulating cucumber size fruiting ability. Csrax5 single mutant exhibited enlarged stem diameter, Csrax1/2/5 triple displayed further enlargement phenotype. Overexpression CsRAX1 or CsRAX5 gave rise to smaller thinner...
Abstract Our ability to predict how temperature modifies phenology at the community scale is limited by our lack of understanding responses functional groups flowering plants. These differ among species with different life histories. We performed a reciprocal transplant experiment along four elevation gradients (e.g., 3,200, 3,400, 3,600 and 3,800 m) investigate effects warming (transferred downward) cooling upward) on plant (FFGs) phenological sequences (i.e., seven events). Warming...
Abstract Lateral branches are important components of shoot architecture and directly affect crop yield production cost. Although sporadic studies have implicated abscisic acid (ABA) biosynthesis in axillary bud outgrowth, the function ABA catabolism its upstream regulators branching remain elusive. Here, we showed that MADS-box transcription factor AGAMOUS-LIKE 16 (CsAGL16) is a positive regulator outgrowth cucumber (Cucumis sativus). Functional disruption CsAGL16 led to reduced whereas...
Abstract. Grassland soil organic carbon (SOC) is sensitive to anthropogenic activities. Increased disturbance related overgrazing has led widespread alpine grassland degradation on the Tibetan Plateau. The degraded grasslands are considered have great potential for sequestration after adoption of improved management practices. Here, we calibrated and employed Century model investigate effects managements SOC dynamics in meadows. We against plant productivity at Haibei Research Station....
Abstract A sulphur (S)‐deficient top soil was used in a pot experiment to investigate the effect of S supply on shoot and root growth development alfalfa ( Medicago sativa L.). The treatments consisted three rates addition S: 0, 20 40 mg kg −1 each replicated four times. Alfalfa harvested at 15, 30, 45, 60 75 d after seedling emergence. By end experiment, plants with had significantly larger leaf area, heavier leaf, dry weight per than controls. effects adding also increased plant height,...
The sulphur status of four soils and 122 forage plants from the Inner Mongolia steppe was determined. organic concentration ranged 17 μg g –1 in 0·2–0·4 m soil layer to 397 topsoil. mean sulphate‐S concentrations were <10 ; greater found only chernozem soil. Biomass‐S accounted for 0·018–0·028 total S soils. Three‐quarters plant samples examined had <1·6 kg S, >0·80 them an N:S ratio >14:1. More than 0·80 deficient S. There a close relationship between plant‐available...
Abstract. Plentiful snowfall is an important resource in northern Xinjiang. However, extreme events can lead to destructive avalanches, traffic interruptions or even the collapse of buildings. The daily winter precipitation data from 18 stations Xinjiang during 1959/1960–2008/2009 were selected for purpose analyzing long-term variability events. Five indices, Maximum 1 day amount (SX1day), 1-weather process (SX1process), Blizzard days (DSb), Consecutive snow (DSc) and weather processes...
There is a great uncertainty about the effect of land use change on grassland ecosystem in Tibetan Plateau. Net carbon exchange (NEE) was measured for native alpine meadow with winter grazing (NAM), abandoned cropland/pasture (APL), perennial Elymus nutans (PEN), and annual oat pasture (AO) plateau, during growing seasons 2009 2010 using transparent chamber technique (Licor-6400). AO significantly decreased average NEE by 21.6, 23.7, 15.7% compared to PEN, NAM, APL season 2010. Compared APL,...
Abstract It was the objective of this study to compare suitability different extractants for predicting availability sulfur (S) in natural grassland a response trial on three soil types Inner Mongolia steppe China. For analysis, seven have been employed. The inorganic SO4–S concentration determined by ion chromatography. Additionally, Ca(H2PO4)2 extract total soluble S employing turbidimetry. Weak salt solutions (0.15% CaCl2, Ca(H2PO4)2, and KH2PO4) extracted similar amounts SO4–S....
