The 2dF (Two-degree Field) facility at the prime focus of Anglo-Australian Telescope provides multiple-object spectroscopy over a 2° field view. Up to 400 target fibres can be independently positioned by complex robot. Two spectrographs provide spectra with resolutions between 500 and 2000, wavelength ranges 440 110 nm respectively. began routine observations in 1997. was designed primarily for galaxy redshift surveys has number innovative features. large corrector lens incorporates an...
We present spectropolarimetric observations of SN 1987A in the LMC. These are first such a supernova with signal-to-noise ratio sufficient to show polarization variations across spectral lines. Observations have been made at several epochs and cover number regions; most cases these include region around Hα. In general through lines is double peaked above continuum value. discuss some detail interstellar component order investigate its effect on profile. The presence shows that explosion was...
ABSTRACT The classical nova YZ Reticuli was discovered in 2020 July. Shortly after this, we commenced a sustained, highly time-sampled coverage of its subsequent rapid evolution with time-resolved spectroscopy from the Global Jet Watch observatories. Its H-alpha complex exhibited qualitatively different spectral signatures following weeks and months. We find that these complexes are well described by same five Gaussian emission components throughout six months eruption. These appear to...
We present two further classical novae, V906 Car and V5668 Sgr, that show jets accretion disc spectral signatures in their H-alpha complexes throughout the first 1000 days following eruptions. From extensive densely time-sampled spectroscopy, we measure appearance of high-velocity absorption component Car, duration commencement main emission. constrain time taken for Sgr to transition nebular phase using [N II] 6584\r{A}. find these timings be consistent with jet model explaining optical...

ABSTRACT η Carinae is an extremely luminous and energetic colliding-wind binary. The combination of its orbit orientation, with respect to our line sight, enables direct investigation the conditions geometry colliding winds. We analyse optical He i 5876 7065 Å profiles from Global Jet Watch observatories covering last 1.3 orbital periods. sustained coverage throughout apastron reveals distinct dynamics emitting versus absorbing components: emission lines follow velocities, while one...
