Abstract It is now possible to extract from high‐resolution angle‐resolved photoemission data the Eliashberg function α 2 F ( ω ) for electron‐phonon coupling (EPC). At same time, first‐principles calculations of EPC surface states are appearing in literature presenting an exquisite picture origin function. The advances this field will be illustrated with new on two faces berylium and a direct comparisin theory Be(0001). (© 2004 WILEY‐VCH Verlag GmbH & Co. KGaA, Weinheim)
