Different instruments have been developed to mitigate the hypothetical bias in contingent valuation surveys. One, labelled 'cheap talk', warns participants about phenomenon prior question. This paper investigates effects of cheap talk on willingness-to-pay ranges, a case study remote mountain lakes. An open-ended follow-up question is added payment ladder elicit maximum amount an individual would definitely pay and minimum above which they refuse pay. The main conclusion that has no...
This article reports on an economic valuation study of alternative fire prevention programs in the province Málaga, southern Spain. The main aim this was to explore social preferences for several forest management issues. Fuel break were presented that differed terms cleaning technique (controlled grazing, prescribed burning and mechanical treatments), design (from traditional linear unshaded breaks more landscape environmentally friendly structures, such as shaded fuel breaks) density...
Community-based health insurance in developing countries is often perceived as a way to improve the healthstate of rural households. An open question whether social capital has positive impact on demand forhealth insurance. A contingent valuation study was conducted explore influence thedemand for The main results are that (i) most households willing pay forcommunity-based (ii) willingness policy implications discussed.
This paper uses the interval data model to explore determinants of uncertainty in two-way payment ladder and multiple-bounded choice surveys. It estimates function that relates size willingness-to-pay range explanatory variables, where one them is a proxy actual willingness-to-pay. The combination inclusion variable present some advantages over ordinary least square estimations currently used literature. In particular, it reduces risk omitted bias takes into account dependent not fully observed.
Interval bidding allows people to report a range of values for non-market good. Herein, we allow choose their distribution over this endogenously. We consider multiplicative error model explaining the willingness pay (WTP) which is estimated using feasible generalized least squares estimator. apply our framework representative sample French population who were asked about valuation bear conservation programme. find that most participants prefer stating WTP as rather than point, but shape...
