In recent decades, normative expectations for parenthood have changed both men and women, fertility has declined, work–family arrangements become more egalitarian. Previous studies indicate that the transition to influence life satisfaction do so differently women. Drawing on constructivism utility maximization, we theorize how gendered norms after parenthood, decisions regarding motherhood fatherhood are made in order maximize satisfaction.
