Abstract In salmonid fish, spermatozoa taken from the testes are immotile, but acquire motility during their passage through sperm duct. Using male masu salmon ( Oncorhynchus masou ), we found that gonadotropin‐induced testicular production of 17α,20β‐dihydroxy‐4‐pregnen‐3‐one (17α,20β‐DP), oocyte maturation‐inducing hormone is responsible for acquisition motility. However, neither testosterone (T) nor 11‐ketotestosterone (11‐KT), two major androgens in teleost were effective. We also...

The nicotinic acetylcholine receptor (AChR) is a postsynaptic membrane protein complex that alters the ion permeability of as consequence binding (ACh) (for review, see Karlin 1980; Changeux 1981; Conti-Tronconi and Raftery 1982). AChR from electroplax ray Torpedo californica composed five subunits present in molar stoichiometry α2βγδ (Reynolds 1978; Lindstrom et al. 1979; 1980). pentameric responsible for agonists, cholinergic antagonists, α-toxins, histrionicotoxin, local anesthetics well...

ABSTRACT Roots of Pisum sativum L. and Zea mays were exposed to different moisture gradients established by placing both wet cheesecloth (hydrostimulant) saturated aqueous solutions various salts in a closed chamber. Atmospheric conditions with relative humidity (RH) range between 98 86% RH obtained at root level, 2 3mm from the water‐saturated hydrostimulant. Silver Queen corn placed vertically tips down curved sideways toward hydrostimulant response approximately 94% but did not respond...

Chitosan-degrading activities induced by glucosamine (GlcN) or N-acetylglucosamine (GlcNAc) were found in a culture filtrate of Trichoderma reesei PC-3-7. One the chitosan-degrading enzymes was purified to homogeneity precipitation with ammonium sulfate followed anion-exchange and hydrophobic-interaction chromatographies. The enzyme monomeric, its molecular mass 93 kDa. optimum pH temperature 4.0 50 degrees C, respectively. activity stable range 6.0 9.0 at below C. Reaction product analysis...

ABSTRACT Photoperiod and the plant hormone, ethylene, modify sex expression of flowers in cucumber ( Cucumis sativus L.). In present study, femaleness occurred under short‐day (8 h photoperiod) conditions compared to that long‐day (16 conditions, although effect photoperiod was more pronounced a monoecious than an andromonoecious cucumber. Application ethylene had greater on production female bisexual cucumbers, respectively. Ethylene evolution CS‐ACS2 , CS‐ACS4 CS‐ERS genes shoot apices...

In the mature testes of guppy, Poecilia reticulata, some groups cells, distributed sparsely in interspace between peripheral germ cell layer and hilar duct system, show evident histochemical response for Δ5 -3β-hydroxysteroid dehydrogenase (3β-HSD). testis newly delivered guppies, somatic cells are present testicular hilus as a compact mass without revealing any structural differentiation. juvenile fish 8mm stage about 7 days after birth, interstitial resembling histologically those adult...
