Sigmoid volvulus is a common cause of emergency surgical admission. Those patients are often treated conservatively with high rate recurrence. We wondered if more aggressive management might be indicated. We have reviewed data diagnosed acute sigmoid over 2-year period. The primary endpoint was patient survival. We analysed 332 admissions 78 patients. 39.7% underwent resection. Survival 54.9 ± 8.8 months from the first hospitalization, irrespective treatment. Long-term survival positively...

Abstract Aims Sigmoid volvulus is a common cause of emergency surgical admission. It often affects older males who are institutionalised and less suitable candidates. Definitive treatment but first line via endoscopic devolution with or without placement rectal tube. After non-operative management recurrence likely carries high mortality, therefore an early approach may be considered in patients fit for surgery. We have retrospectively analysed cohort sigmoid order to clarify if when more...
Abstract Background Goblet cell carcinoma (GCC) is a rare mixed neoplasm arising from the appendix, consisting of glandular and neuroendocrine tissue. It typically presents in adults with mean age 55-65 years old. Diagnosis usually incidental via histopathological examination after 0.3% to 0.9% all appendicectomies. Literature remains sparse on classification prognosis GCC, cases documented younger patients. Aims To highlight an interesting clinical presentation intra- post-operative...
