The Arctic is a highly variable environment in which extreme daily and seasonal temperature fluctuations can occur. With climate change, an increase the occurrence of high temperatures drought events expected. While effects cold dehydration stress on polar arthropods are well studied combination, little known about how these species respond to combined heat stress. In this paper, we investigated tolerance collembola Megaphorura arctica affected by combinations different humidity acclimation...

ECR Spotlight is a series of interviews with early-career authors from selection papers published in Journal Experimental Biology and aims to promote not only the diversity researchers (ECRs) working experimental biology but also huge variety animals physiological systems that are essential for ‘comparative’ approach. We tracked departures of European Robins Erithacus rubecula stopping over during spring migration at Skagen, Denmark, and facing a sea crossing more than 50 km. The stopped on average for 3.8 days (range 1–14 days, n = 15) with departure being slightly warmer stopover (1.5°C warmer, P 0.003). Departures were concentrated in the evening, astronomical twilight, toward northeast (µ 33.3°, r 0.499, 0.021). mean northeasterly direction is close to standard direction. Most birds probably crossed...
