In this paper we consider the problem of creating and controlling volume deformations used to articulate characters for use in high-end applications such as computer generated feature films. We introduce a method call harmonic coordinates that significantly improves upon existing deformation techniques. Our are controlled using topologically flexible structure, called cage, consists closed three dimensional mesh. The cage can optionally be augmented with additional interior vertices, edges,...

Abstract We present estimates of gravity wave momentum fluxes calculated from Project Loon superpressure balloon data collected between 2013 and 2021. In total, we analyzed more than 5,000 days flights in the lower stratosphere, often over regions or during times year without any previous in‐situ observations waves. Maps mean show significant regional variability; analyze that variability using statistics flux probability distributions for six regions: Southern Ocean, Indian tropical...
Starting with simulations of idealized linear gravity wave packets, we show how interference between multiple packets can result in an underestimation their combined vertical flux horizontal momentum by up to 50%. The two key ingredients for this are the must have similar enough frequencies that projections onto time-frequency domain overlap, and they propagate different directions. This combination results errors estimated phase relationship wave-induced wind anomalies reduces estimate...
Abstract Superpressure balloons, which drift approximately on isopycnal surfaces, get displaced by gravity waves and are thus capable of detecting wave signatures. The project Loon provides superpressure balloon data in the upper troposphere lower stratosphere from 2011 to 2021. Convection-generated gravity waves (CGWs) transport momentum and energy, this is a dominant driver of global features Earth’s atmosphere’s general circulation (e.g. the quasi-biennial oscillation, pole-to-pole mesospheric circulation). As CGWs are not generally resolved by weather climate models, their effects on need to be parameterized. However, quality observations GWs spatiotemporally sparse, limiting understanding preventing constraints parameterizations. Convection-permitting or...
Industrial control systems increasingly use standard communication protocols and are connected to public networks—creating substantial cybersecurity risks, especially when used in critical infrastructures such as electricity water distribution systems. Methods of assessing risk have recognized for some time the way which strategies potential adversaries managers interact defining exposed. But it is also important consider adaptations systems’ operators other legitimate users controls, that...
The last few years have seen a decisive move of the movie making industry towards rendering using physically-based methods, mostly implemented in terms path tracing. Increasing demands on realism lighting, and material modeling, paired with working paradigm that very naturally models behaviour light like real world mean more movies each year are created way. This shift has also been recently recognised by Academy Motion Picture Arts Sciences, which this year's SciTech ceremony awarded three...

This paper presents MoonRay, a high performance production rendering architecture using Monte Carlo path tracing developed at DreamWorks Animation. MoonRay is the first tracer, to our knowledge, designed fully leverage Single Instruction/Multiple Data (SIMD) vector units throughout. To achieve SIMD efficiency, we employ Embree for rays and vectorize remaining compute intensive components of renderer: integrator, shading system shaders, texturing engine. Queuing used help keep all lanes full...
Abstract The climate model hierarchy encompasses models of varying complexity along different axes, ranging from idealized that elegantly describe isolated mechanisms to fully coupled Earth system aspire provide useable projections. Based on the second Model Hierarchies Workshop, which took place in 2022, we present perspectives how this field has evolved since first Workshop 2016. In period, have witnessed a dramatic increase use (a) machine learning modeling and (b) estimate risks...
The synthesis of 5-,6- and 7-hydroxycoumarins by dehydrogenation the corresponding 3,4-dihydro-derivatives obtained aluminium chloride-catalysed reaction dihydric phenols or their derivatives with methyl acrylate is reported. compound previously described as 5-hydroxydihydrocoumarin has been proved to be 3,4,6,7-tetrahydrobenzo[1,2-b: 5,4-b′]dipyran-2,8-dione on basis spectral evidence synthesis.

Over 2000 years the Catholic Church has slowly developed a posture towards technology which is predominantly techno-optimist and techno-progressive, yet does not have this reputation today. Concomitantly, institutions individuals made crucial contributions to advance of science technology, despite practical effort better human development, Christian theology been remarkably uninterested in subject technology. This lack interest no longer tenable; scholars religion theologians should...

This paper provides an overview 2013 that are contributing to knowledge base resulting successes challenges real deployments around world. (3 pages)
Startup companies in the healthcare sector often fail because they lack sufficient entrepreneurial, regulatory, and business development expertise. Maturity models provide useful frameworks to assess state of elements more systematically than heuristic assessments. However, previous were developed primarily characterize larger nonmedical companies. A maturity index designed specifically for startup medical product could help identify areas which targeted interventions assist development.
