One of the side effects cisplatin therapy in malignant neoplasms is ototoxicity. This effect shows a wide interindividual range which more variable than pharmcokinetic parameters. Oxidative stress has been implicated The glutathione S-transferase (GST) supergene familiy encodes isoenzymes that appear to be critical protection against oxidative stress. Certain GST loci are polymophic, demonstrating alleles null (GSTM1 and GSTT1), encode low-activity variants (GSTP1) or associated with...

A new endoscopic method, the peroral direct cholangioscopy (PDCS) is described. prograde fiberscope of 8.8 mm diameter can be directly inserted, without using a second scope as guide, into biliary system after EPT (endoscopic papillotomy). The lumen common bile duct observed entirely and exactly. image excellent. Also accessories may inserted via biopsy channel under control.

A multicenter study of 25 centers covering 9041 endoscopic sphincterotomies showed that choledochal concrements still represent the main indication (83,9%). Circumscript papillary stenosis (10.64%) and tumour(2.06%) are next most frequent indications. Complications after sphincterotomy may be expected in 7.55% cases, somewhat more stenoses than concrements. The complication is haemorrhage, followed by pancreatitis, cholangitis cases concrements, perforation. Mortality around 1.12%. Late...

Long-term results after endoscopic sphincterotomy (EST) revealed disappearance or improvement of symptoms in 92.0%. The remained unchanged 6.2% and deteriorated only 1.8%. X-ray follow-up studies showed concrement-free bile ducts 85.2%, recurrent stones 11.3%, a stenosis EST 3.5%. Satisfactory long-term depend on the indication for EST. choledocholithiasis are much better than papillary (symptom-free improved = 91.7%: 83.7%, 6.4%: 14.3%, 1.9%: 2.0%). An EST-related was more five times...

In our experience with five cases of Crohn's disease the esophagus, endoscopic appearance has been demonstrated. Corresponding to basic pathological changes, findings are very different, but two stages may be differentiated: Stage I in which inflammatory changes predominate as a mild or more often erosive-ulcerative esophagitis. II is stenosing form similar peptic stenosis tumor. The morphological predominantly limited lower part esophagus tendency extend proximal regions. diagnosis...

Confusion in the nomenclature of gastric polyps and resulting uncertainties regarding prognosis treatment have made a new classification necessary, consisting focal hyperplasia, polyp manifold aetiology, adenoma, benign hyperplasiogenic polyp, latter most common one, found only stomach. But 110 cases polypoid mucosal changes could not be classified. These "polyps" grow to at 8 mm diameter are characterized histologically by non-inflammatory cysts varying size located within intact fundal...

Experience in the endoscopic and bioptic diagnosis of malignant non-Hodgkin's lymphomas stomach 66 patients is reported all which were B cell originating mucosa associated lymphoid tissue (MALT) type. Two types tumor could be differentiated by their appearance on endoscopy (two had both types). An exophytic type (n = 24) was easily recognized as malignancy confirmed biopsy (mean 1.2 endoscopic-bioptic examinations). It classified according to Palmer classification; 50 % low-grade...

Mutations of the three "gap" genes, a class segmentation genes Drosophila melanogaster, cause contiguous groups adjacent segments embryo to fail develop (Nüsslein-Volhard and Wieschaus 1980). In hunchback, thoracic are deleted, whereas in knirps only two rather than eight denticle bands formed abdomen The gap pattern homozygous Krüppel (Kr) embryos overlaps borders seen other mutants 1980; et al. 1984).
