Abstract This study investigates the interactions between South American sea lions ( Otaria byronia ) and trawling fisheries in central‐southern Chile, using underwater video technology. From August 2017 to 2018, a total of 32 filming sessions were conducted across trawl targeting Patagonian grenadier Macruronus magellanicus ), nylon shrimp Heterocarpus reedi Chilean hake Merluccius gayi ). The records revealed 15 lions, including adult subadult males females. These individuals observed...

Dipturus chilensis and D. trachyderma are two species of skates found on the continental shelf slope around southern tip South America. As another batoids, their life traits make them more susceptible to overfishing. In Chile, skate fishery covers twenty latitudinal degrees is captured as a target by artisanal vessels from central-south zone Patagonian fjords (south 41°S). Seven individuals three trachyderma, 75-110 cm total length (TL), were tagged with pop-up satellite tags programmed...

Hydromedusae collected in epipelagic waters of the channels southern Chile, between Corcovado Gulf and Pulluche-Chacabuco channels, were analysed. A total 23 species identified recorded for first time this region. The most abundant Hydractinia minuta (44.4%), Clytia spp. (21.0%), Solmundella bitentaculata (14.5%), Amphogona apicata (9.8%). H. was only whose maximum abundance occurred interior, low temperature, salinity waters. Most are common inhabitants Humboldt Current System, although a...

We identified 36 species of cnidarians (27 hydromedusae, 9 siphonophores) collected from the Moraleda, King, Darwin, and Pulluche channels, located in southern Chile. The hydromedusae Gossea brachymera, Hybocodon unicus, Sarsia coccometra, siphonophores Rosacea cymbiformis R. plicata were recorded for first time channels.Diversity values higher Hydromedusae (2.66 bits) than Siphonophorae (1.15 bits). The largest aggregates found Moraleda with densities that exceeded 7,000 ind•1000 m -3 .The...

Abstract Many organisms display changes in behaviour and life-history traits when facing variabilities environmental conditions. A subset of these comprises reversible within-individual variations, known as phenotypic flexibility. Using red squat lobster (Pleuroncodes monodon) individuals harvested at the Humboldt Current Ecosystem (HCE), we evaluated how habitat temperatures associated with warm El Niño (EN) conditions cold La Niña induce flexibility reproductive this affects recruitment...

Abstract The yellownose skate ( Dipturus chilensis ) and roughskin trachyderma are the only two elasmobranch species targeted by commercial fishing operations in Chile. Despite their importance, much of biology ecology remain poorly understood. This research aimed to evaluate feasibility tagging these species. In 2021, a pilot study was conducted at locations, utilizing Petersen discs, acoustic transmitters, pop-up satellite transmitters on both results revealed 6% recovery rate from 50...
