Synthesis and theoretical study of rigid conjugated macrocycles having persistent geometries single triple twisted Möbius strips.
Twisted π-systems investigation showed a very unusual HAE, influencing independently the ISC and dual phosphorescence emission, one being persistent at room temperature visible by eye in powder.
Carbo[ n ]helicenes are poor emitters with the emission peak in purple or blue region. Attaching an aryl-carbonyl group to helical skeleton shifts absorption and visible region improves fluorescence quantum yield.
Abstract An efficient and versatile synthetic approach has been developed for the synthesis of large carboxy‐substituted polycyclic arenes. This strategy relies on Perkin reactions between arylacetic arylglyoxylic acids formation flexible precursors. A subsequent rigidification step, by catalyst‐ or light‐induced intramolecular cyclization reactions, then yields fully condensed aromatic compounds. Protection deprotection techniques have to allow controlled assembly a number building blocks....
Abstract This combined experimental and theoretical study illustrates the profound consequences of non‐planarity on electronic properties polycyclic arenes. Three isomeric [10]fibonacene tetraesters were synthesized through a robust regiocontrolled Perkin/Mallory approach: nearly planar [10]phenacene derivative, moderately twisted [10]semicircle 3D non‐planar [10]helicene derivative. The photophysical isomer found to be dramatically different from comparable ones isomers. aromatic isomers...

Helicenes and helicenoid structures are promising candidates for future applications exploiting circularly polarized light. Ideal should possess near-quantitative photoluminescence quantum yield, a high luminescence dissymmetry factor an adjustable HOMO-LUMO gap. However, carbo[n]helicenes poorly luminescent compounds they absorb light mainly in the ultraviolet region. Here we show that incorporation of carbonyl group into helical scaffold significantly improves fluorescence yield shifts...
The combination of silica nanohelices and helicenes reveals different orientations in helical supramolecular assemblies formed on surfaces, the chiroptical signals were induced by helicene adsorption organization.
2,9- and 2,10-diphenylpentacene were synthesized by direct C-H borylation of ketal-protected pentacene, followed halodeboronation, resolution the dihalo isomers, Suzuki arylation, cleavage ketals decarbonylation in solid state. They studied as main active components organic field effect transistors (OFETs). Diphenyl substitution pentacene affects unit cell dimensions only slightly, preserving a face to edge molecular packing first layers thin films evaporated on SiO
Considering the relevance of room temperature phosphorescent (RTP) materials, we discuss influence donor and acceptor groups substituted on to a twisted three-fold symmetric hydrocarbon homotruxene, which presents persistent RTP, even in absence or moieties, under ambient conditions as result π-system. Compared fluorine acceptor, methoxy group increases phosphorescence decay rate solution, while solid-state, molecular aggregation packing yield very visible by eye. The RTP intrinsically...
