The heavy group 14 methylene analogues, EH2, (E = Ge and Sn) have been stabilized via efficient methods, thus enabling the chemistry of these novel inorganic hydrides to be explored in depth.
A combined donor/acceptor approach is presented for the stabilization of parent germylene, :GeH2.
The N-heterocyclic olefin, IPr=CH(2) (IPr = [(HCNDipp)(2)C], Dipp 2,6-(i)Pr(2)C(6)H(3)) has been demonstrated to be of sufficient Lewis basicity stabilize main group hydrides in unusually low oxidation states.
Various low oxidation state (+2) group 14 element amidohydride adducts, IPr⋅EH(BH(3))NHDipp (E=Si or Ge; IPr=[(HCNDipp)(2)C:], Dipp=2,6-iPr(2)C(6)H(3)), were synthesized. Thermolysis of the reported adducts was investigated as a potential route to Si- and Ge-based clusters; however, unexpected transmetallation chemistry occurred yield carbene-borane adduct, IPr⋅BH(2)NHDipp. When solution IPr⋅BH(2)NHDipp in toluene heated 100 °C, rare C-N bond-activation/ring-expansion reaction involving...
Silver nanowire mesh electrodes represent a possible mass-manufacturable route toward transparent and flexible for plastic-based electronics such as organic photovoltaics (OPVs), light emitting diodes (OLEDs), others. Here we describe that is based upon spray-coated silver meshes on polyethylene terephthalate (PET) sheets are treated with straightforward combination of heat pressure to generate have low sheet resistance, good optical transmission, topologically flat, adhere well the PET...
Putting on some weight: A series of stable adducts featuring the hitherto unknown mixed heavy ethylene analogues H2SiGeH2 and H2SiSnH2 (see picture) were prepared using a versatile donor–acceptor method. A stable Si(II) dihydride complex, IPr·SiH(2)·BH(3) (IPr = [(HCNDipp)(2)C:]; Dipp 2,6-(i)Pr(2)C(6)H(3)), was synthesized and preliminary reactivity involving this source of encapsulated silylene is reported.
To branch or not to branch: A mild stepwise route various linear and branched (GeCl2)x oligogermylenes supported by Lewis bases is reported, including the carbene-bound Ge4 complex NHC⋅GeCl2Ge(GeCl3)2 (see picture). Dipp=2,6-iPr2C6H3, NHC=N-heterocyclic carbene.
The elusive parent inorganic ethylene H2GeGeH2 has been isolated in the form of a stable complex for first time via donor–acceptor coordination with suitable Lewis base/acid combinations (LB·H2Ge-GeH2·LA; LB = N-heterocyclic carbene or olefin; LA W(CO)5). nature bonding these species was investigated by density functional theory calculations and revealed presence polarized Ge–Ge covalent σ-bonds within H2Ge–GeH2 arrays dative Ge–C interactions between digermene carbon-based bases.
A series of monomeric heterocyclic metallylenes [{(i)Pr(2)Si(NR)(2)}M:] (M = Ge and Sn; R Dipp 2,6-(i)Pr(2)C(6)H(3) or SiPh(3)) have been prepared. Preliminary atom-transfer chemistry involving the new low-valent germylenes with chalcogen sources Me(3)NO S(8) yielded corresponding dimeric oxo- sulfido complexes (e.g., [{(i)Pr(2)Si(NDipp)(2)}Ge(μ-E)](2); E O S). Structural analyses their oxidized products reveal that incorporation umbrella-shaped triarylsilyl groups (SiPh(3)) within NSiN...
The iminophosphine–phosphazene [PIII–PV] heterocyclic adduct [IPr·PN(PCl2N)2] was prepared via reduction of the cyclic phosphazene [Cl2PN]3 in presence carbene donor IPr {IPr = [(HCNDipp)2C:], where Dipp 2,6-iPr2C6H3}. By contrast, treatment with N-heterocyclic olefin IPr═CH2 yielded olefin-grafted ring [(IPr═CH)P(Cl)N(PCl2N)2].
The synthesis and coordination chemistry of a series dianionic bis(amido)silyl bis(amido)disilyl, [NSiN] [NSiSiN], chelates with N-bound aryl or sterically modified triarylsilyl (SiAr3) groups is reported. In order to provide consistent comparison the steric coverage afforded by each ligand construct, various two-coordinate N-heterocyclic germylene complexes featuring set were prepared oxidative S-atom transfer was explored. cases where clean oxidation transpired, sulfido-bridged...

119Sn Mössbauer spectroscopy was performed on a series of formal Sn(II) dichloride and dihydride adducts bound by either carbon- or phosphorus-based electron pair donors. Upon binding electron-withdrawing metal pentacarbonyl units to the tin centers in LB·SnCl2·M(CO)5 (LB = Lewis base; M Cr W), significant decrease isomer shift (IS) noted relative unbound complexes, LB·SnCl2, consistent with removal nonbonding s-electron density from upon forming Sn-M linkages (M W). Interestingly, when...
The synthesis of a series N-heterocyclic carbene (NHC) complexes involving zinc, cadmium, and the heavy Group 14 elements germanium, tin, lead is reported. direct reaction between bulky IPr (IPr = (HCNDipp)2C:, Dipp 2,6-iPr2C6H3) halide reagents GeCl4 SnCl4 afforded 1 : IPr·ECl4 (E Ge Sn) in high yield; similarly, ZnI2 interacted with THF to give THF-bound complex IPr·ZnI2·THF. CdCl2 underwent divergent chemistry major product isolated was imidazolium salt [IPrH][IPr·CdCl3], which could be...

Summary An experimental study was conducted to investigate the transport of sand particles over bed deposited in a horizontal conduit by using turbulent flow water. The main objectives were determine near-wall turbulence characteristics at onset erosion (i.e., velocity profile, Reynolds shear stresses, and axial-turbulent intensity); critical required for particle removal from deposits; more specifically, how sand-particle size surface would influence characteristics. A large-scale loop...
