A volatile heteroleptic open ruthenocene has been synthesised and characterised by NMR single crystal X-ray diffraction. Using this compound as a precursor oxygen co-reactant, high ly...
Gasoline vehicles have generally relied upon a combination of palladium and rhodium for more than 25 years to facilitate the required oxidative reductive reactions carbon monoxide (CO), hydrocarbons (HCs), nitrogen oxides (NOx). Recently, steady increases in price relative platinum fuelled demand reincorporate into three-way catalysts (TWCs). However, fundamental properties platinum, including susceptibility toward sintering inhibition under typical gasoline operating conditions, present...
The structure of several nano-sized ceria, CeO2 , systems was investigated using neutron and X-ray diffraction absorption spectroscopy. Whilst both total pair distribution functions (PDFs) revealed that in all the samples occupancy Ce4+ O2- are very close to ideal stoichiometry, analysis Reverse Monte Carlo technique significant disorder around oxygen atoms ceria comparison highly crystalline NIST standard. In addition, main differences observed correlations from various techniques were...
Mechanochemistry offers a solventless, 'waste free' route to preparing metal oxide catalysts, however, there is limited information on the chemical steps involved. In this work, perovskite LaMnO3 has been successfully synthesized via mechanochemistry from powders, La2O3 and Mn2O3, at room temperature, using planetary ball mill. Separate ex situ'time slices' were taken during milling procedure provide insights into underlying chemistry. The crystalline material was assessed XRD, which...
A reverse Monte Carlo analysis method was employed to extract the structure of CeO2 from Neutron total scattering (comprising both neutron diffraction (ND) and pair-distribution functions (PDF) Ce L3- K-edge EXAFS data. Here it is shown that there a noticeable difference between using short ranged x-ray absorption spectroscopy data medium-long range PDF ND in regards disorder cerium atoms. This illustrates importance considering multiple length scales radiation sources.
The effect of Pd loading on the redox characteristics a ceria support was examined using in situ K-edge XAS, Ce L3-edge XAS and X-ray diffraction techniques. Analysis data obtained from these techniques indicates that onset temperature for partial reduction Ce(IV) to Ce(III), by exposure H2, varies inversely with Pd. Whilst completion temperatures Ce(III) are different, both samples yield same maximal fraction formation independent loading. Furthermore, is found be concurrent PdO...
