The EEG response and drug kinetics after intravenous infusion of diazepam at 1-0 mg/min until nystagmus, dysarthria, moderate sedation developed, has been investigated in five normal subjects 17 patients with chronic liver disease. Diazepam induced adequate premedication a similar clinical all no adverse reactions. Maximal was during or within minutes infusion. dose required disease 17-9 +/- 1-4 mg (M SEM) compared 27 5-4 controls (p less than 0-01). Dose correlated significantly serum...

Inherent to helical tomotherapy is a dose variation pattern that manifests as “ripple” (peak‐to‐trough relative the average). This ripple result of beam junctioning, completely unique tomotherapy. Pitch defined in CT, couch travel distance for complete gantry rotation axial width at axis rotation. Without scattering or divergence, an analytical posing problem simple integral predicts minima near pitch where integer. A convolution‐superposition calculator (TomoTherapy, Inc.) included all...

Many distinguished foreign visitors to the United States in 1850s commented on advanced states of mechanization manufacturing. But why, at same time, were interest rates higher and aggregate manufacturing capital stock lower American than Britain? We resolve this paradox by noting that British engineers most impressed only those industries which relied skilled workers. Using production parameters estimated from 1849 census data, we develop a computable general equilibrium model economies...

Checks remained local payments instruments throughout virtually the entire nineteenth century. Their significant use in interregional transactions dates only to 1890s. We explain their lagged spatial diffusion by evolution of centralized institutions coordinate among myriad banks, not real technological changes “annihilate” distance. In this article the convergence of U.S. interregional interest rates in late nineteenth century is examined and two major hypotheses are tested framework a bank portfolio selection model based on capital-asset-pricing model. Both spread commercial paper market lowering entry barriers through reduction national minimum capital requirements rejected as principal explanations. The erosion local monopoly power shown to have been central importance, development was due growth state rather than banks.

THE VALUE of corticosteroids in the treatment croup has not been convincingly established. Some authors have claimed that corticosteroid therapy reduced or shortened duration airway obstruction so fewer patients required tracheostomy.1,2Skowron and his associates3were able to demonstrate a controlled study fever, stridor, sternal retractions, hospital stay were significantly treated patients, but concluded potential risk serious side effects outweighed these advantages....

Translog production functions allowing nonconstant returns to scale biased are estimated pooled cross-section time series for 16 major industries over period 1850–1890 based on Census data. It is shown that substantial increases optimal firm size, dictating natural monopoly or tight oligopoly market structures, occurred some but...

Galectin-1 (Gal-1) is important in immune function and muscle regeneration, but its expression localization adult tissues primary leukocytes remain unclear. To address this, we generated a specific monoclonal antibody against Gal-1, termed αhGal-1, defined sequential peptide epitope that it recognizes, which preserved human porcine not murine Gal-1. Using found Gal-1 expressed wide range of tissues, including striated muscle, liver, lung, brain, kidney, spleen, intestine. In most types...
