Background: Global efforts aimed at ending human immunodeficiency virus (HIV) incidence have adapted and evolved since the turn of century. The utilization machine learning incorporated into an electronic health record (EHR) can be refined prediction models that identify when individual is greater HIV infection risk. This create a novel innovative approach to identifying patients eligible for preventative therapy. Objectives: study's aim was evaluate effectiveness model in clinical...
We present a retrospective study of people with HIV (PWH) admitted to the medical intensive care unit (MICU) an 862-bed academic, safety-net hospital. aimed determine characteristics ICU admissions among PWH, measure mortality in this population and identify predictors mortality. All patients ≥ 18 years old diagnosis infection MICU between January 1, 2017 December 31, 2019 were included. A total 195 occurred during period. The mean age was 46.2 years, 77.4% male majority color. Overall, 125...
Early in the Mpox outbreak, individuals presenting for testing often did not receive comprehensive sexually transmitted infection (STI) screening upon presentation. This study aims to assess impact of targeted outreach on linkage STI and HIV pre-exposure prophylaxis (PrEP) counseling testing. Individuals who had tested were contacted via an existing team Dallas, Texas, engage STI/HIV other preventive services between June 2022 March 2023. On retrospective chart review, 414 with 203...

Introduction:
HIV pre-exposure prophylaxis (PrEP) is effective at reducing transmission. However, PrEP uptake low for racial and ethnic minorities women, especially in the Southern US Health care clinicians should be prepared to identify all patients eligible PrEP, provide counseling, prescribe PrEP.
Methods:
Retrospective analysis of persons newly diagnosed with was conducted a large public health system from January 2015 June 2021. Interactions 5 years preceding diagnosis...
We have carried out a comparison of the incidence childhood onset insulin-dependent diabetes mellitus {IDDM} between five populations around Baltic Sea. These were Finland, Estonia, Latvia, Uthuania and Poland. The risk IDDM is highest in world Finland also very high Sweden, on western northern side children eastern Sea has not been known before. data collection period covered years 1983–1988. A marked variation was seen within this relatively small geographical area. Among these...
Thirteen patients with subungual melanoma on the fingers had a mean delay before diagnosis of 1.2 years. Four presented local recurrence after inadequate initial treatment and two systemic metastases. Mean primary thickness was 6.1 mm. nine Clark level IV or V disease. All underwent digital amputation. Two seven who localised disease initially are alive at 29 44 months. One four locally recurrent is 36 Both presentation died. Advanced delayed contributed to poor prognosis in our patients.
A prospective study was carried out to determine the prevalence of Chlamydia trachomatis among 1000 sexually-active women at Family Planning Association Clinic in Melbourne. This organism isolated from cervices 5.1% screened women. The were surveyed about their sexual and gynaecological history, symptoms discharge or pain. It found that who gave positive results for presence younger, had commenced intercourse an earlier age. Risk factors multiple partners, cervical ectopy urethritis...
Vascular wilt bacteria such as Pantoea stewartii, the causal agent of Stewart's bacterial maize (SW), are destructive pathogens that difficult to control. These colonize xylem, where they form biofilms block sap flow leading characteristic wilting symptoms. Heritable forms SW resistance exist and used in breeding programs but underlying genes mechanisms mostly unknown. Here, we show seedlings inbred lines with pan1 mutations highly resistant SW. However, current evidence suggests other...
Abstract The introduction of emtricitabine/tenofovir diphosphate (FTC/TDF) as pre-exposure prophylaxis (PrEP) for HIV prevention has raised questions regarding which clinicians will serve prescribers and how providers be educated about this strategy. We piloted an Prevention Education Program called PrEP University (PrEP U) to address knowledge gaps in among medical trainees. examined awareness assessed learning a result the program, measuring before after lectures with anonymous 5-question...
Effective measures exist to prevent the spread of HIV. However, identification patients who are candidates for these can be a challenge. A machine learning model predict risk HIV may enhance patient selection proactive outreach.
This paper examines the behaviour of dense, nonaqueous phase liquids (DNAPLs) in fractured media, with an emphasis on waste-disposal ponds constructed clay and rock. Calculations are presented to estimate height DNAPL that may accumulate at base a disposal pond prior initial entry into water-saturated fracture. is found be function fluid densities, DNAPL–water interfacial tension, fracture aperture, position water table. A numerical model applied steady-state rate leakage from underlain by...
A total of 2124 women who attended the Richmond Family Planning Association Clinic in Melbourne consecutively were screened for presence or absence Chlamydia trachomatis. One hundred and three found to have Chl. trachomatis infection cervix invited participate a clinical trial minocycline doxycycline treatment chlamydial infection. 10-day course either drug resulted negative result culture all patients at follow-up assessment, which occurred between 11 days 12 weeks after therapy....
One thousand consecutive women who attended the Richmond Family Planning Association Clinic and were to undergo a vaginal examination asked participate in large prospective microbiological study. Participants questioned about their sexual activity during previous 12 months any apparent signs of sexually transmitted disease. On cervix was inspected for evidence inflammation, ectopy or discharge cervical swabs taken assessment. Chlamydia trachomatis isolated 5.1% tested while Ureaplasma...
Chlamydia is the most reported bacterial sexually transmitted infection (STI). The rates of chlamydia rose by 19% between 2011 and 2018. STI National Strategic Plan (2021-2025), encourages coordinated solutions to address STIs reduce disparities in disadvantaged populations. We implemented institutional policy changes, clinical decision support, including a Best Practice Advisory, defaulted SmartSet with provider patient education for women's health clinics at large county system. advisory...
Objective The need for clinicians to access Infectious Diseases (ID) consultants clinical decision-making support increased during the Coronavirus Disease 2019 (COVID-19) pandemic. Traditional ID consultations with face-to-face (FTF) patient assessments are not always possible or practical a pandemic and involve added exposure risk personal protective equipment (PPE) use. Electronic (e-consults) may provide an alternative improve specialists Methods We implemented e-consult platforms...

Background
Chlamydia trachomatis is the most common bacterial sexually transmitted infection. Rates are highest in 16-24-year-old age group. Untreated it can be a significant cause of morbidity. At least 50% men and 70% women with C. asymptomatic.
Study aims
The aims study were: To determine prevalence trachomatis. success our referral policy to genitourinary medicine (GU clinic). characteristics population estimate level recognition 9chlamydia9 as concept....
Screening rates for Human Immunodeficiency Virus (HIV) remain low despite guidelines by both the CDC and USPSTF recommending that all adolescents adults be screened at least once. The aim of this quality improvement study was to increase HIV screening among eligible patients.
Safety net healthcare systems have high patient volumes and significant demands for specialty care including infectious diseases (ID) consultations. Electronic ID consults (E-consults) can lessen this burden by providing an alternative to face-to-face referrals decreasing financial, time, travel constraints on patients. This system could increase access patients in limited-resource settings. We described characteristics of all outpatient E-consults at Parkland Health Dallas, Texas, from March...
Abstract Background Methicillin-susceptible Staphylococcus aureus (MSSA) infections are traditionally treated with intravenous (IV) nafcillin, oxacillin, or cefazolin, all antibiotics that require multiple doses per day. Despite theoretical limitations of using ceftriaxone in MSSA infections, some clinical studies suggest noninferiority compared standard care. At Parkland Memorial Hospital, many patients diagnosed receive self-administered Outpatient Parenteral Antimicrobial Therapy...
