Four normal rat lungs were positive-pressure inflated (7 mm Hg downslope) and perfusion-fixed for electron microscopy. Morphometric analysis yielded estimates compartmental volume densities in alveolar septal lung tissue excluding capillaries: type I cells, 0.126; II 0.097; endothelium, 0.264; interstitial 0.358; space, 0.116; macrophages, 0.039. Numerically, the largest cell population of parenchymal was endothelial cells (43%) followed by (31.8%), (14.5%), (7.5%) epithelial cells; 3.2%...

Abstract The Practice Environment Scale of the Nursing Work Index (PES‐NWI) has been utilized for two decades globally to measure nurse work environments. Its 31 items in five domains present a substantial respondent burden, threatening survey response rates. purpose this study was derive and validate short form: PES‐5. We conducted cross‐sectional, secondary analysis data from nurses 760 hospitals six U.S. states 2016 or 2019. One representative item per subscale selected by highest...

Morphological work dealing with correlation between structure and function necessitates careful fixation technique to ensure preservation of the lung under well defined, nearly physiological conditions. When problems, merits, disadvantages two techniques-(1) "from front" by instillation fixatives into airways (2) behind" vascular perfusion pulmonary artery—are discussed, it is concluded that perfusion-fixation only one presently available for solving some special problems such as (<i>a</i>)...

Existing methods of fetal lung organ culture are complicated and require special skills. With the use a polyester-based plastic sheet, we have developed simpler human that is viable for 6 wk. This novel method permits study growth differentiation, pulmonary surfactant secretion, response tissue to injury in vitro. Lung tissues, obtained from fetuses ranging gestational age 14 18 wk, were cultured on polyester sheet Dulbecco's modified Eagle medium supplemented with 15% calf serum gentamicin....
