ABSTRACT
Patients with Alzheimer's disease and nondemented elderly control subjects participated in studies of cortisol secretion during sleep at 9:00 a.m. were given dexamethasone suppression tests (DSTs) lumbar punctures. Nocturnal concentrations significantly higher the demented patients. CSF MHPG negatively correlated mean nocturnal cortisol. The most severely patients had highest concentrations. DST results did not distinguish samples substantially different These suggest that measurements basal plasma provide information but support notion somewhat than normal
