ABSTRACT
The authors' goal is to provide basic epidemiologic data on the issue of reactivity stress and HIV symptom onset by studying relationship between a broad set naturally occurring stressor events natural history in large longitudinal community sample HIV-seropositive homosexual men.Subjects were recruited from cohort 1,011 men enrolled Chicago site Multicenter AIDS Cohort Study who also participated Coping Change Study. given self-administered questionnaires assessing behavioral, psychological, psychosocial variables. Relationships reports stressful life biomedical measuring illness progression examined. Life assessed numbers lovers, friends, acquaintances diagnosed with or had died scores checklist 24 more general serious events. variables indicating among initially asymptomatic drop T-helper lymphocyte percent (CD4%) pairs examinations at least 25% thrush and/or fever lasting minimum 2 weeks.The authors found no evidence that have any meaningful effect indicated either CD4% thrush.There need for people infection restrict their lives order avoid exposure experiences develop special skills coping forestall illness.
