ABSTRACT
The Synergy system, a miniature partial circulatory support device, is implanted by an off-pump, minimally invasive surgical approach. system has been optimized to improve performance in EU clinical trial for chronic ambulatory heart failure. This therefore offers the possibility of treating elderly failure patients who might not usually be considered long-term support. From June 2007 December 2012, 63 were with (12 ≥70 years) using four different releases device. Briefly, draws blood through inflow cannula from left atrium into micro-pump (placed right subclavicular pocket) and pumps it outflow graft subclavian artery. In this paper, we present intermediate analysis as performed on April 30, 2013, leading placing CE mark.Mean duration ongoing at 230 days (range 23-1387). Follow-up showed improved hemodynamic response, additional improvements 6-min walk distance (299 ± 144 420 119 m) Minnesota Living Heart Failure Questionnaire (69.5 20.4 49.2 24.3). Older had longer mean durations (337 vs 188 days). On average, younger similar hemodynamics (107 120 130 121 m). Major adverse cardiac events included bleeding (n=4) one related renal resulting death.Clinical use device was associated significant functional improvement. Very low event rates reported latest release. smaller body sizes worse function than patients. Both groups experienced benefits improvements. risk dysfunction appears increased elderly, though still within acceptable ranges compared other full devices. Minimally devices, like Synergy, offer new treatment option that available even population.
