ABSTRACT
OBJECTIVES: Cigarette smoking is a leading risk factor for periodontal disease. This cross-sectional study investigated the relation between environmental tobacco smoke (ETS) and disease in United States. METHODS: Data were obtained from Third National Health Nutrition Examination Survey (1988-1994). The outcome was disease, defined as 1 or more sites with attachment loss of 3 mm greater pocket depth 4 at same site. Exposure to ETS home work self-reported. analyzed 6611 persons 18 years older who had never smoked cigarettes used other forms tobacco. RESULTS: only, both reported by 18.0%, 10.7%, 3.8% population, respectively. adjusted odds having 1.6 (95% confidence interval = 1.1, 2.2) times exposed than not exposed. CONCLUSIONS: Among States tobacco, those likely have ETS.
